(have the FF400.. which is pretty much the same thing except it uses FW instead of USB)
Don't even notice it. Becomes part of the normal operation.
(besides, have a Coleman monitor controller which has it's own knobbies)

If you use the unit as a standalone I think you'd get the hang of operating the one knob after a while. It's easy to switch between headphones/ monitors/ preamps etc

I make all changes using TotalMix...the software...it's awesome...easy to make headphone mixes and adjust levels. Everything is in the one window. It's superb.

Total mix rocks. The one knob doesnt bother me abit i actually like it more then seperate knobs. less hassle and cleaner looking. FFUC changed my life.

Been noticing your problems with this GFX card.

By far the worst drivers I have seen come out of Nvidia in a while.
I have a Gigabyte model gtx560, and have the similar HDMI problems.
Stable one minute, forgets it's settings the next.

And DEFINITELY has increased my latency....... no more 32 samples for me :(

I'm also starting to believe that their High Definition Audio driver is stuffing with my Spdif somehow.

I guess i was a little ad like and i should have problems with RME Going foward i will be sure to focus on the negitive just for you!

Hey thanks,I think I just realized that "after" I was convinced the UA was junk/and now it works[alright enough] I like me knob Im still Totally LUSTING for RME though....cool?

I know the feeling, i Lusted for a year and a half until i could finally fork over the 1300. as a side note its too bad USB cant provide the voltage it needs. wallwarts kinda blow for portability..

The spec sheet for the Fireface UC states:

Input/Output level for 0 dBFS @ Hi Gain: +19 dBu
Input/Output level for 0 dBFS @ +4 dBu: +13 dBu
Input/Output level for 0 dBFS @ -10 dBV: +2 dBV


Can someone break down those figures for me?

It is showing the voltage level of input/output, when the digital scale is full (0dBFS). dBu and dBV are the units for the "actual" or "absolute" voltage, with reference to 0.775V or 1.0V, respectively. 0dBFS is "relative" scale for AD/DA converters. Easily put, 0dBFS is the 0dB on the meter in TotalMix for you. So, these numbers are basically telling you how much voltage is coming in or out, when you see 0dB in the meter of TotalMix. Now, the voltage is of course oscillating (in audio), so the meter and these numbers are expressed as RMS (root mean square), not the peak.

In practical application, using line input signal with +4dBu standard (pro audio equipment), the AD conver has 9dBu of headroom before clipping.

Hello i have a question to all of you guys who tell a lot of good storys about the Fireface Uc. Are you all windows users ore is this interface also great with a mac book pro (dual intel 2.5GHz)..?

Because i heard in the past things about rme and bad mac drivers..

And what do you think is better, the fireface UC ore the 400 unit? I heard they have very similar latency..

Yes, I'm on Win 7 and yes, RME's engineers have claimed that their interfaces work slightly better in windows (bad mac drivers, however, hard to believe...) But then again, that's also true of Cubase, Nuendo, Wavelab, Vienna Instruments Pro, Vienna Ensemble Pro, Kontakt, Play etc. Do you see a trend here? heh But hey, you can still bootcamp your MBP, can't you?

I seriously doubt the FF400 is still in production, although it'll still be in their catalog as long as they have some leftover stock (they're not exactly flying off the shelves, like Babyfaces seem to be...)

I just wish the ones that are left[thousand's..........well,a few anyway......at EVERY single music store, on planet earth] would see a price drop! They're still[mostly]around $1,200/$1,300,same as the "newer/possibly better" UC

Never had a problem with. Go for the UC, the 400 seems to be on it's way out

That they can still charge what they do is telling of the quality imo.
FF400's can be daisy-chained with other FF400s and even FF800's... something the UC is not capable of.

Yes unfortunately i see this too... Though i hate windows and also the face of cubase, mac and especial logic becomes more and more unstable and software for rich consumers

I also hate to change the hole system but sooner ore later we have to see

I've never had issues with RME drivers on mac. Very stable.
