Apparently, they can work. And some possbile troubles seem to be fixed with the "hack" of using an in-between dock (or 2 docks) to connect to the Windows machine with a regular cable. https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunderbolt...cable_windows/

I'm running the StarTech PCIe Firewire 1394a card (MPN: PEX1394A2V2) that @ dorn was considering. It uses a Texas Instruments TSB82AA2 chip, so I had to install the "Legacy 1394 Driver" when I upgraded to Windows 10 from Win 7, because the default Windows one didn't work.

StarTech also sells a card based on the XIO2213B chip, MPN PEX1394B3, which they also offer in a low-profile variant.

I've heard one report that Microsoft's current 1394 driver actually works better with the latest revision of the VIA 1394 chip.

I just re-installed my Windows 11 Pro. I have some problems with my graphics (no gaming, just Pro Tools and Internet).

I leave my studio computer on for 48 hours without problems. Is it dangerous for the machine? The heat of the CPU never passes 40C/104F.

I keep a good care about my PC. I "clean" it regularly etc. I only use for browsing and recording via Pro Tools. I have about 200 3th party plugins, witch I update when needed.

No problem, even better if you have some online/quality UPS.

I've had my studio PC on 24/7 for 2,5 years now, and it's predecessor Mac Pro for several years before that. Zero problems, I just make sure it's idling on Balanced power plan.

I also set the Bios for restarting on power loss, as I do this for Jump Desktop remote connectivity. Works very well, and I see from startup programs like DADMan (that I normally close when leaving) if it has rebooted, which is very rarely, except when I have had too much undervolting on idle.

How do you set that in an Asus bios?

Dunno, I'm on MSI. It's in the "general" settings (like wake from sleep via USB etc), not in the OC section.

Better to keep it at the default "Power Off".
Why?
Because if the power line becomes unstable, it is better for the PC to be OFF.
Imagine an unstable power line resetting the PC over and over again...

I also prefer to set ErP Ready = S5

I haven't heard of power lines becoming unstable, but this is Finland (normally very reliable power).

I have a pair of Prism Sound Orpheus interfaces that I've been reluctant to replace because they cost me a mint and they still sound wonderful. Firewire is the downside of that decision.

I totally understand. I love my Tascam FW-1884, and even have an FW-1082 connected to another system. I haven't seen anything else that has the audio interface and control surface combo (I love my faders!) so I'm stuck with firewire as well.

Hi,
From what I can see, it is unnecessary more expensive and get the
power from PSU 4-pin molex plug, the other gets from the PCIe slot.

Certain security video applications with multiple cameras and perhaps a large hard drive would have exceeded the power available from a PCIe slot. A card like that one solves that problem... which is one that you don't have.

My Youtube has become real slow. I just re-installed Win11 and all the drivers. Did I forget something?

Sometimes Youtube runs smoothly, but most of the time it is really slow. All the other sites are fast, it's only Youtube.

I posted and and flashed the BIOS successfully, but when I am trying to install Windows 11 I am getting this error (5 times in a row now):

"Windows could not get this computer to boot into the next phase installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."

Any ideas on what to do here?
I can't get past this point in the installation, and restarting it just gets me back to this screen.

Could be a memory problem. Make sure the sticks are in the correct two slots. Often when installed in the wrong two slots it will work but have mem errors/corrupt files.

Can't think of anything else.

Make sure to install the latest GPU driver and also try to
disable the browser GPU acceleration.

What GoldDragon said or maybe 6400 is too much for the CPU memory controller.
Set to 6000 or less and see if it works.
If it works, later you can try to run at 6400 by doing some tweaks.

The RAM is definitely in the right slots-
slots 1 and 3
(in a 0,1,2,3 ID configuration)
aka DIMM_A2 1st and DIMM_B2 1st.

How do I change the memory to 6000?
It started originally at 4800 and I tried installing Windows 11 with that setting but no go.
Then I enabled DCOP to 6400 and the same.

Would changing it to 6000 have an effect then?

Is there any issue with installing Windows 11 on an M.2 drive? Is is expecting a SATA drive instead?
