I've been a defender and fan of Slate from the moment I popped VCC Beta into my DAW. It's the only game-changing plug-in that I've ever encountered.

I want Slate Digital to get VCC as close as they can to the original consoles. I don't care if it takes them another year to accomplish that.

The free iLok was an added bonus. A nice PR move, considering the delay in getting the final VCC version out.

However -- and this is a very small "however," given the above -- all the promises and/or hints over the course of the past six or so months that the plug-in was almost ready have taken on a near-comical effect. Despite the technical brilliance of Slate products, their extremely reasonable pricing, the company's (probably) good intentions, et cetera, I wonder if the "just around the corner" mantra we've been hearing for so long will have a long-term impact on their credibility in the recording/audio community. (Or maybe it won't, if the final VCC version turns out to be completely awesome.)

Software development time (ESPECIALLY real time audio stream development time) is EXTREMELY difficult to predict.

If you think you're frustrated now, go and try do do some real time audio software development yourself.

You'll get a whole new perspective on frustration.

I think it's a positive thing to hear that the private beta has started.

I don't need to be in the private beta. It's awsome we could get the beta early on to get a taste of the final product.

So Slate, thanks again for a great product and we'll just wait and see when it's finished.

Tx for this plug-in (or at least the idea)---haven´t tested it yet since the beta is closed. However I have been following this forum for some time now and cannot wait until the release. Two questions that come to mind:
1) Any idea on the impact of VCC on the CPU ( know you guys are testing so nothing for certain, but if you could give a hint)
2) I know that there has been some serious issues between Chris and you guys during this forum (sorry for my Danish) but if you were to distinguish your product from Chris´( know that seems hard) what would be your argument for me to purchase yours instead of his?

With no disrespect to Chris, I would immediately say:
(1) VCC is RTAS, AU & VST. Chris's stuff is only AU.
(2) VCC has a detailed and informative GUI. Chris's stuff does not. This may or may not be an issue for you.

I don't for the life of me understand why some people seem to think this has now become a joke. Steven has been pretty open about this along the way.

He even explained more a couple of weeks ago about the current roadmap: that the private beta testers would have the plugin for a week or two, and if they reported no bugs, then Slate would go into full release. I think he said that about a week ago now.

There also shouldn't be any confusion about the beta at this point. There were ALWAYS two beta teams: the private beta team, and the public beta team. Hell, the main REASON there was a public beta team was because everybody was screaming at Slate for not having the plug available yet! It was a way to kill two birds with one stone: to satisfy some rabid followers of this thread, and to get the beta onto a wider variety of machines to check for problems. Both of those plans worked pretty well.

Then Slate ran into the iLok 2 situation, which has delayed everything by quite a bit, obviously, and it has prevented releasing the final plugin to the general public.

Does anyone honestly think that Slate doesn't want to release the plugin even more than YOU want them to? Seriously, folks.

Admittedly, though, I'm glad I got in on the public beta. It sounds great, and it long ago replaced other "coloring" plugins I was using.

Yeah, to Fbhall 123 (can't find his post Mikey MTC is quoting right now), I would suggest that it might be better to address this question in Chris's Console thread. He's been trying really hard to stay out of this whole thing, and he'll be able to answer better than anyone what he's doing.

I do have both plugs, and they sound very different. They can even be used together quite well. One main thing to note is that Chris is not trying to model any particular desk/console with his plug.

even though we are all dying for this release. i think its a great idea that the final release be "bug free" and ilok2 secure. we dont want the plug in to released like most companies do with massive bugs that cause crashes and DAW compatibility issues. the wait is to make sure VCC runs smooth on all systems and all DAWs 24bit-32bit-64bit whatever you have.. the plug in released in a earlier state with bugs would only cause Slate Digital more problems when VCC crashes our projects and hogs our CPU slowing down our work flow before we had VCC. more complaining, more fixes, more updates, more time. i know this is my first time posting on this thread but ive been following since the beta demo came out and i was blown away than. thanks steven for a great plug and trust it sounds as good as you say. no need for childish behavior, even though i realize why most people are anxious.

Personally, i would be SUPER PISSED OFF if this plugin gets hacked/cracked within the first few months of release. Im glad they went ilok2.

Lets face it.......we ALL have been through alot together here on this thread. We all stuck it out through thick and thin. For some sucker ass punk kid who will swoop in and crack/steal this plugin would be a HUGE insult to all of us, who have been waiting so patiently.

I say......if it gets cracked.....i will personally hunt them all down and beat them....just like "Jay and Silent Bob" did when people were talkin' smack about them on the internet.

I just wonder the private beta testers post? Are they lurking amongst us keeping shhtuum...

I also think for those of us with the beta running without problems for months now, its hard to wait whilst knowing the sounds gonna change, I'm sure Slate Team can appreciate that once your using this on your tracks its hard to go back to not using it... so all our childish impatience is actually immense anticipation... besides if all us paid beta people were using it, how would the private beta be affected? Truth is that the private beta peoples systems will still be what they are and still trying to cover every configuration we might have anyway and there are certain to be some issues after wider release anyway...

But bottom line is, it is their product, of course they want to sell it, want it finished and available, so whatever they're doing must be necessary.. who would delay their own product with the competition closing in all the while..

Do your thing Yellow Matter Crew its gonna be worth the wait and in the meantime us beta people got a seriously exclusive plugin!

I've actually found the whole ordeal rather strange,
I think probably because this is the first plug-in release i've followed from announcement to release, so I really have no idea what it's like with other plugs, therefore have no basis for comparison/whinging..

I think the thing that's great about Slate is that he's always around, answers quesitons and doesn't just fade away but comes back constantly to feild bashing and narkyness from so many,
Having said that, all the 'hype' has kind of worn me out with this one, and honestly when I think of Slate products I think of "this" very situation.

Be that fair and just? Probably not, it's just one person's opinion.. but some people are affected by these things with their purchasing decisions,

Interestingly for me (not that anyone really cares) but while this whole VCC thing has been going on i've been trying all the emulations possible for my system chasing 'that' sound, and in the process, I actually became a much better engineer and have completely stopped using emus, because I found the sound I was looking for with my own technique as an engineer,
So this journey has been great for me in terms of growth and my ears/sound.

Will I still buy VCC, yeah I probably will, because toys are fun and I'm sure it will sound great,
But do I lust after plug-ins as some kind of be all and end all of my workflow/sound?

And this is a common misconception.
Heavily protected software ( especially when using Pace ) will never run on all systems, right after going through a 'privat' beta.
Only a huge public beta would bring up all possible issues.
BUT the 'logistics' would just need way too much resources.
( that's what Steinberg learned with Cubase VST32 5 and Slate with their VCC public beta. )

So ... the correct term would be
"the wait is to make sure VCC runs smooth on many systems"

'Running smooth on all systems' will most probably take another few month, after release ...

Sadly, my predictions regarding the release date, where pretty accurate ...

I think if you're taking people's money then you're raising their expectation level that they will receive what they paid for..at least in a reasonable timeframe!
SS should have done a free (ilok time expired) beta just like other companies do, and then they wouldn't have taken money up front, and set expectations so high!
My observation is SS creates a lot of needless hype, and then wonders why people get annoyed...
Here's a lesson to learn:
Under Promise, Over Deliver....NOT over promise, under deliver.

There's been too many promises made, and not a lot of delivering so far...

I think it's funny that everyone that is slamming the slate team for this plugin are most likely those people with their "home studios" that consist of a laptop and a m-audio interface... So this plugin being released now or in 5 months won't make a difference to your audio life, it's not like you need it NOW.

So kids, relax and take a breath and let the developers do their work. It's just a friggin' plugin.

Well, your last statement isn't to far off really.

You really didn't get my point, my point is, that there are people with like 2 posts, creating accounts and posting in this thread bitching about this plugin. What I mean with what I said is that most of the people that are literally bashing Slate don't even NEED the plugin as crucial element in their workflow... they just WANT it... and while this is a good plugin... come on... it's not a game changer at all, you can certainly live without it ITB as you have before.

Yeah - I just want it...The beta is working great here, but that doesn't make me want all the new features any less...This thread is redefining the term "patience is a virtue"...and BTW - Slate should be VERY HAPPY that people want it so badly.

Yes I'm really excited about the response to this plugin.. especially from people who have had such great things to say about the beta. The final version really takes it to the next level.

Speaking of which.. just so I continue to openly inform you all of our progress.. there are some minor bugs that have come from our private beta which we are fixing.. mainly a mixbuss cpu issue and a plugin loading time issue..

So overall, things are going well! thumbsup
