Hello just wondering since a lot of us might be buying used mbox studio if anyone has come to an issue of not getting a product key or having it being used already by someone who owned it previously. I bought mine through guitar center online. I tried to contact avid with no response and guitar center said they can’t help me. I’d hate to have to return it but man is there any thing I can do? It fits my set up so nicely I’d hate to return it. Can I just somehow find the software and be able to use it? It’s a $900 piece of metal collecting dust. I have windows 11 and just want to use it.

Has anyone found a solution to something like this? The avid customer support is confusing and hard to navigate but I submitted a ticket with no response.

I would contact guitar center. They should have a direct line with Avid to help you get the Mbox control software. It is unlikely that you will be able to get any of the other software bundle with it if it was used already as those licenses would have been deposited to the owner’s ilok. If it is unused or unregistered then you should be able to get everything…it depends upon how you bought it. I know with Sweetwater they help you with things like that pretty quickly. Guitar center should have people that can do the same. Hopefully it works out for you - the MBox Studio is an amazing interface both in sound and usability. Blessings…

I've been wondering if it is possible to use an Mbox Studio secondhand.

I bought one new and to get the mbox software, I had to register the Serial number with my avid account. The mbox would not work without this registration.

This registration also gave me a license for Pro Tools Studio Perpetual. But the license for PT Studio perpetual is under the Mbox Studio section of my avid account. It's not a separate distinct PT license.

So if I were to sell my mbox, I *think* I'd have to make sure I transferred the hardware serial number to the buyer. I'm not sure this is even possible. And if I was able to do that, I'm positive I'd lose the PT license as the license is tied to the Mbox hardware serial number too.

I agree it's frustrating that the standalone Mbox Studio software cannot be downloaded without hardware serial number registration, but as far as I can tell, this looks to be the case.
