An observation

You keep going on about going off topic, thing is you never defined any specific parameters for this thread; your whole O.P reads like a blog post. 'I did a bunch of stuff, and like yeah, brilliant'.

If you would have added an...< And what do you think>.... your O.P would be so much better.

On the whole AI thing and posting it on this forum: the very mention of AI is like catnip, and seeing as these types of threads go the way this one seems to be going, it shouldn't be any suprise. There's many sides to an argument/discussion, both positive, negative and somewhere in-between.

Your posts have been civil and reasonable, so I'll try to respond in kind, even though this strikes me as a little pedantic.

I have said off-topic three times. Not sure how that is "keep going on about it".

On-topic would have been about the product/service itself. Off-topic is what will AI do to the music industry and our jobs. That is a separate discussion.

As for defining specific parameters for the thread, I did not think guard rails were necessary, but clearly I was wrong.

Not sure what you mean by blog post. This is a thread on a forum, not a news article or op-ed. I literally started it right after using ACE for the first time. I came away surprised and impressed and thought it would be cool to talk about it with others who have done the same.

I think my OP was concise and to the point.

Maybe the thread title gives people the wrong impression, but I literally didn't think about it. I wrote the OP, it needed a title, and I just entered the first thing that came to mind.

So I have learned, yes.

We don't have to agree, but going around in circles and rehashing the same argument over and over is not productive, and nobody is learning anything new.

What's more, the lack of manners displayed by some here changes the tone and dynamic of the conversation, and discourages further participation.

I went back to the OP to see if I can change the title, but unfortunately not.

It seems that yiu can judge the others manners but call "pedantic" the others Pov.

Whats on topic and whats off topic seems to be decided by you and only you. The title of the thread isnt:
"Artistic implications of AI voixe softwares".

Instead it Is a far more clickbaity

"AI voices is here".

I tried to think of its artistic or musical inplication and proposed something of what it would be able to do.
What do you think it could imply to music itself?

But that's not really the entire story. Your voice is a product of biology, and while I can sing, I've got a small range that just is what it is. No amount of practice or lessons can get it to be significantly larger than it is. Trust me, I've tried. So the music in my head is writing a melody that I can't sing. It's frustrating. I have no problem throwing it to someone else, but to be honest, I've never really found anyone that was a good fit.

That's just old-man-on-a-porch talk. There are plenty of good artists now, just like 50 years ago there were plenty of crap artists.

Where I think this is all going is just like things went with orchestral instruments. The synth "brass stab" didn't end the real horn player, though I'm sure it had some effect. What really happened was more people could put horn like sounds in their music and the horns were off enough that it became a separate thing. Maybe some of the good singers that suddenly find themselves less in demand will stop being untrustworthy prima donnas and step up their game and make themselves as easy to work with as the software. Ultimately, that's what I would want. Until then, I'm using software voices, because I'm a song writer, not really a singer. I'm not going to stop because I can't personally do it or I can't find someone who will work with me. Not when this technology is here and provides decent results.

As much as a writer wont need a singer, a singer wont need a writer. Since this AI will replace you too... that wouldnt stop me to use it since It might be possible that in order to be competitive in price we need to use this technology, but I am not that happy that it exists. AI For medicine or building houses is one thing, But for replacing artists... I am not the one to defend it.
And is not true that today there is same amount of work that it was like forty years ago in music.

So far there is a repetitive pattern of people being glad not needing people to make true their wishes. Is not hard to understand that this turns against you very quickly.

Take The Crash Test Dummies Mmmmmm song for instance. The lead singer has a limited range. That particular song stands out as he delivered that song in his own way with the voice that he's got and that song is fantastic because of his unique voice.

What I'm saying is be you, not this thing inside your head. Yeah, we'd all want this super vast vocal range, some of have that, some don't, just how to cookie crumbles and what makes our voices distinct from one another.

Well, I did try the people first, and it failed miserably. Most people are sleepwalking through life and not really worth the effort.

We all been going that way since the day of synths, mics, sampled piano libraries, guitar effecta, melodyne etc.
I think than in this case things are a little different.

Sorry, you just happened to hit a nerve. I've butted up against untrustworthy people in the music business so many times that I can't even count. It's almost always my desire to work with a human, but so often the hassle isn't worth it.

A few years ago I hired a woman to do vocals on a song and she no-showed twice, then finally showed up late, was sick, totally unprepared, and after I had finally gotten enough that I could sew together a decent take, she refused to sign a performance release. Not outright, though. She took the money and said she'd read it and sign it, and just never did, no matter how much I pestered her for it. I was on a deadline, and I ended up having to use someone else, who didn't do as good a job, but at least was good to work with. Ultimately, I wish I had access to AI, as it would have been as good a product and had none of the hassle.

So, maybe in some roundabout way, AI will force singers to behave in a more professional and reasonable way. I did all the sound for a video game last year and we did find two voice actors who were mostly great to work with. Then one of our producers decided to throw a part to one of our QA guys and it was a train wreck. I asked for 24 bit .wav files, and he sent me super compressed .opus files of him mumbling though the lines at very low levels. I didn't even bother asking for a second take. I just redid it myself. It was a robot voice that was going though some effects, so no one really noticed.

I can empathise with you in respect of wasters. Like any industry, there's the super reliable and highly skilled that cost a premium to hire, and then there's the rest.

I'm sure we've all encountered the type that just messes you around constantly and never produces the goods. It's really annoying. I totally get why you'd be inclined to use AI voices over people wasting your time.
