I am seriously thinking of switching from my apogee symphony desktop to the MT 48. I’m using an M1 Mac studio Max.
I’m curious from a daily use perspective if you own the MT 48 how stable is it in and of itself and then with the macOS?
Do you feel that after the “honeymoon.” That you still love the sound as much as you first did?
If you happen to have Neumann monitors, do you feel that somehow the interface is a great match with the monitors?
I have the KH 750 sub with the KH80 monitors. Using the Neumann room correction software really sold me on Neumann.

After little more than a year, yes! I still love it so much. Sounds so good.
Super stable on my m2pro Mac mini, no issues.
I mostly use it on the monitor mission and I use the built in eq door room correction and to my ears sounds way better than soundID even though isn’t the same.
Haven’t used that specific monitoring rig but shoot be pretty good, I have the NDH30 which are supposed to mimic KH monitors corrected with the ma1 system and to my ears they’re quite good? I just added 30% crossfeed and sounds really close to a “in room” speakers.

The latency is ok when using pro tools at 32-64 buffer monitoring trough PT with plugins, but the performance is incredible using it trough VAD (Ethernet).

So in short… yes I’m glad I got it.

Yes the unit it’s a little bit “complicated” let me know if you need help.
The post fx inputs can be recorded simultaneously, the inputs are 1-4 analogue in, 5-8 can be set as post fx analogue inputs or 5-12 adat inputs/spdif. Once you understand the routing capabilities it’s quite powerful but yes, the unit isn’t the most straightforward

2) the dynamics don't pass sound through them even when cranked up

Here is how I have things at this point

ok according to the pictures, your inputs should be set to 5-8 if your using any FX inside the MT48 mixer (eq, dynamics) inside logic. and the output should be set to 1-2 or 3-4 to arrive to the MT48 Mixer. The built in reverb on the mt48 is set directly on the mt48mixer via send on the input ch. Logic should not be used in software monitoring to avoid additional latency. If you want to add FX or plugins inside logic then you should mute the input ch on the mt48mixer and just listen brought the outputs from logs into the mt48mixer or just bypass the mt48 mixer by setting the software playback-direct routing and select the desired output

Thank you- but I have to confess- I am really slow when it comes to routing and I only partially follow what you are saying here. What I was hoping to do was record to input one in Logic- and the Neumann tutorial shows adding another track to record the processed signal and put that input in Logic to input 5. I've tried all inputs on that second track 5-8 and it gets no input.
I can't get any signal to the onboard effects like on the meters on the MT48-
Also- I can't hear the reverb no matter what I was trying to do. Are you saying there is a send on the MT48 that I have to route something to?

I got it! I went back and followed the Neumann tutorial to the letter. I have it working great in Cubase now. I didn't have the Reverb turned up loud enough to hear.

Hi , I just bought mt48 and connect my keyboard for midi , trs cable and it doesnt work , random , stuck notes , in cubase 14, it seems that it works like switch . I checked settings , triggers , set to midi but nothing change . Has someone use mt48 with keyboard for midi playing and has same problem , or this gpio is not for midi keyboard , . Do I need to buy external usb c to midi adapter for my keyboard on my mac mini m4 ?

Yes, I have it , original neumann trs to midi cables , connected it and doesnt work like I describe above . I try to play via keyboard , after 10 notes one stays stuck , i have to unlock with mouse .
I read manual there is trigger in menu and gpio / midi settings is set to midi . But is this intended for midi keyboard or only for midi switch. Yesterday I tried another synth , cables , reinstall new driver butwith the same result . ? Am I the only one who want to use mt 48 with midi keyboard.?

Oh I see… haven’t got the midi adapter myself since I don’t use MIDI keyboards (just a controller with usb/midi). I’ll look into it, haven’t really dive into the gpio/midi ok the mt48

Best investment I've made in years. Preamps are asroundingly good. Headphone amps are the best I've used with an interface like this.

It's complex because it's flexible.

I'd love if they added a few bits of functionality, but nothing so far has made me regret my decision. Just the opposite in fact.

A real game changer IMO.

It's been great. I am finally understanding the routing and mixer which is really cool.

Hi , Yesterday I tried Casio ctk691 and it plays OK , my yamaha s doesn t play , I found that there is type A midi Type B cannot find what types have casio vs yamaha , why neumann have not 2 types of midi cables , it is so complicated , in manual gpio midi is scheme connection midi trs , I need change pin 5 4 tip , ring

Probably DIY or maybe there’s an adapter or cable either way different wiring

The type A and B only concerns the wiring of the TRS plugs and NOT the 5 pin din plugs.

I am having the same issues with midi and quite frankly Neumann should be embarrassed as this has been broken since the beginning. I see reports on the Internet going right back with this problem. Nobody reports resolvinfg it and just switches to a separate USB midi cable.

Oh indeed it’s a shame… since I don’t do MIDI aside from my usb controller haven’t found an issue but Neumann should fix that

Well I spoke with Neumann and they have had other reports with something in common. They all relate to older Yamaha models . They can't reproduce it with the newer models they have on hand. I offered them a midi dump if that would help them.

Use it every day professionally. No issues with stability. Sounds astonishing.

Worth every cent.

It sounds stunning but some things are a nightmare... such as I'm trying to come out of outs 3/4 and back into inputs 1&2 with out feedback. I still haven't managed and I'm very frustrated. Obviously it can be done but it outlines the point that it's not a particularly user friendly unit.

Similar to Elektron stuff a particular way of working.

are you using direct or software monitoring
and what are you trying to do by doing that?

I've got outs 3/4 hooked up to hardware so when I want to run a part through hardware and record it back I would send to outs 3/4 and bring back in on 1&2.

My monitor controller, Is hooked up via the main outs of the 48.

I do songwriting and produce also other artists. Some songs I mix myself. I use my MT48 together with KH120II for monitoring and it’s a dream setup. For recording I mostly put the mic into a 1073 and the preamp goes via line into MT48. It truly is a wonderful setup.

I startet my home studio with a SSL interface and Preamps and even the finest mics sounded very harsh and thin on mainly female vocals. I made a shootout against apogee symphony, some highend Antelope and the new highest tier MOTU interfaces. Test recordings where made with a Neumann TLM49 directly into every interface and also into the 1073 going line in. The MT48 was by far the best sounding piece of kit. Even one of my artists and she is one of the kind that never hears any difference no matter how huge it is, she could tell how much more detail and clarity her voice had with the Neumann interface.

The AD/DA is fantastic and the headphones amp is a dream. It gets pretty warm and once it crashed with the older firmware. Other than that never any problems.
