I used it (the Studio Pro version) for a couple of hours as a plugin in Logic, and here are some issues in my experience:

1. Lyric input is clunky. The Tab key does not go from note to note. You have to click on each new one.
2. Pasting a set of lyrics in does not work correctly. It does not split up the words, but instead crams all syllables of a word into one note. You have to edit your lyrics to be only one syllable each. e.g. If you paste the word “happiness” into a three note melody, it will sing “happiness” really fast on the first note only and leave the last two notes empty. But if you paste in “ha pee ness” it will fill all three notes correctly.
3. You cannot drop and drag or copy and paste MIDI notes into SV. You can only IMPORT MIDI. So if you have a MIDI track in Logic you want SV to use, you have to export it, then import it. And even then it does not line up correctly - you have to nudge it around.
4. You cannot record notes into SV and hear the rest of your tracks at the same time! This is a major problem!!! You either hear SV’s synth, or you hear your other tracks, but not both. So it is IMPOSSIBLE to play a MIDI keyboard into SV while listening to your tracks. This is a serious issue, since that would be the most intuitive way to use the plugin.
5. The manual is not great. There are things missing and also there are things that contradict the actual program.
   

The good points:

1. Editing notes in the grid is easy and works very very well.
2. The sound is amazing! I’ve only used the SOLARIA voice so far, but she sounds like a real singer. You have to tweak the timing a bit, etc., but man it sounds gorgeous! Definitely worth having to record the melody on another track, export it as MIDI, then import it into the SV track.
3. There are settings that let you tweak a performance using parameters like breathiness, intensity, air, soft, power, etc. I was surprised to find that these work really well and sound quite real.

I don’t know if it's using ARA or not. I’m on a Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.7.2 with Logic 11.1.1 (the latest as of Dec. 24, 2024).

I’m going to look into the ARA thing, but there are conflicting reports. Apple says ARA 2 is fully implemented in Logic. But the SV manual says ARA doesn’t work in Logic except with the Bridge (whatever that is) and booting Logic with Rosetta. I’ll check it out and see if it fixes some of the problems I listed. And it doesn’t say if it’s ARA or ARA 2.

I think it would benefit Dreamtonics to ensure full ARA 2 compatibility in Logic, since many use it. More money for them!

Summary: I'm not going to ask for a refund (you have a 7 day window) because the singer sounds so good. I don't mean in a "not bad for an a.i. good" way, I mean that I am perfectly happy using it professionally in some situations. Is a live singer better? Yes, usually (depends on the singer). But it also costs more money and time.

Anyone else using this? What's your experience? I downloaded the free trial first, which is standalone and can't be used as a plugin, but the included voice was not great. I only bought the full version because of the refund window. Several of the other voices sound really good, too.

BTW, if you go on Spotify and search Solaria as an artist, you can hear some tracks people used with that voice. They are ok, but I think they're first generation, because the one I'm using sounds better.

Saying I LOOOOOOOOOVE it would be an understatement.
My music creativity has been re-sparkled since I discovered it. I actually wanted something like this for a long time and tried similar ply purposed software long time ago, but the tech was still on its infancy and didnt really worked very well by then.
Now, Synth V is simply amazing.
For a guy like me, who cant sing if my life depended on it, and with nobody to play with or sing for me, this software opened the sky.
Not only I now have a singer to my complete disposition... I went crazy and I have a rooster of 12!

The way I use it, it works just fine. I create my basic melodies with other software, import it into Synth V, and add the lyrics manually. Then I listen and polish things manually. If offers enough versatility to get quite decent results.
Of course, there are things still tricky or not capable of (screaming and belting are difficult), but it is evolving and improving fast. Since I got it 2 major stable versions and several intermediate beta versions have been release. When I first got it it supported only 3 languages (Japanese, Mandarin and English) and 1 mode (sing), now it does 5 languages (Cantonese and Spanish) and 2 modes (rap).
Yesterday they posted an announcement anticipating V2. It seems they will announce Synth V V2 at NAMM.
Cant wait to see what new improvements and refinements they have prepared!

Synth V is absolutely amazing. Been using it for about 18 months now and yes, it can be frustrating but it pays to work your way around its limitations.

1) Tab does work..I use it all the time. Are you sure you're using the right "tool combination" with it?
2) Do you use "+" and "- when splitting words? Even then the notes have to be connected without silence or they won't work
3) Yeah, I'm with you :-) The only way to get the MIDI import right is that you have one continuous MIDI files from bar 1 to finish of your song if my memory serves me well. I play live my vocal stuff into Synth V in Logic Pro.
4) You absolutely can. I've been doing this all the time since I'm not patient enough to draw the notes in Synth V plug in.
5) I haven't even looked it at very much since there are great video tutorials in YouTube to do most of the things.

ARA or ARA2...yes this would be wonderful. Would be interesting to know why this can't be implanted in native Apple Silicon version but then it's up to Apple and I guess? Melodyne to do this.

Don't lose your hope on Synth V and check the YouTube videos. They will reward you :-)

I wasted over $400 on this shit software. Took me hours to get one verse done when I could have had a good singer cut the entire song in fifteen minutes.

I can always tell when it's a track done with Synthi V. It sounds "A.I." Emotionless and rigid. If you think it sounds good, you are not a singer yourself, obviously. At best, its ok for a demo that you want an actual
human to record.

If it took you hours to get 1 verse done, that is user error or delusional expectations. It really is as simple as draw the notes as in midi and input the lyrics. There are youtube videos to show how to do it.
This software is amazing. Hiring a singer is simply not possible for 99% of us. Singing at this level is not either. But even if it was, each of us only has 1 voice with 1 timbre and 1 range. Here you have dozens at hour disposal 100% of the time, no need to agree on convenient time schedules, fighting about cost, etc.
Saying "this is dtupid, learn to sing!" is like saying "Superior Drummer is stupid, learn how to play drums or hite a drummer!" or with any other virtual instrument "Symphonic libraries are stupid, learn how to play violin, cello, woodwind, bass, horns, and record them yourself or hire a real orchestra!".
Man, that logic is just flawed.
Synth V is, hands down, the best music software of the last decade, by a mile. And it is only improving.
Then, there is not an I.D. system at all for Synth V. You are completely wrong.
That system is for a completely different software (Vocoflex), NOT for Synth V. Also, Vocoflex is not a new version of Synth V. Is a totaly different software with a totaly different use for a different purpose.
Is ok you don't like or even hate a piece of software, but spreading lies about it can hurt other members of the community looking for information before making an informed decision on whether buying or not a product.
Also, there is no need to spend 400$. Regular pro version is 160$ and there is a free stripped down version to test and decide for yourself if this virtual instrument is for you or no before spending any money.

I've been a sound designer for Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Arturia, Native Instruments and others for decades. I'm no stranger to software, whatever form it is. I've discovered workarounds for Yamaha products that even the Japanese engineers didn't know. I've been recording for nearly fifty years. "User error, or delusional expectations?" That makes you come across as a defensive asshole who can't sing.

Enjoy Synthi V. But remember, there are those of us who don't. My biggest mistake was thinking I needed it, I guess.

I took your suggestions and got a better workflow.

Here are the current bugs:

--Importing a MIDI track does not line up with the original timing.
--THE MEASURE NUMBER IN THE SV WINDOW DO NOT MATCH THE MEASURES IN LOGIC! This is SUPER annoying. In other words, SV says it’s on measure 2, but Logic is really on measure two and a half or something. Lots of dragging and fiddling to get it right. This is something quite basic and is a bug that needs to be addressed ASAP.
--assign key to Seek to the Beginning of playback does not work
-- When recording into SV with a keyboard, it record to the DAW as well — meaning you have to erase notes in the track every time.
--When hitting Record in the plugin, THE DAW IS NOT HEARD AT ALL. So you cannot hear the music you are recording to.
--- no popup explaining what the hell icons mean
-- No icon/clickable way to zoom in. Uses key commands which are often taken by the system or the DAW. There should be little + and - icons to zoom in/out.
Transport appears and disappears. Have to keep clicking. WTF?
--- Nonstandard Mac interface. Cannot option drag to copy notes. This is VERY annoying. Copy-dragging notes to create new notes is Mac standard and really speeds the workflow.
--- Adding a + to make multisyllabic words last over more notes is
very buggy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. It doesn’t matter if the notes abut each other or not. Sometimes, I delete, then redo the lyric and + sign and suddenly it works. (With no other changes).

This is all without the ARA Bridge – which in the manual is confusing and makes no sense. I tried it and Logic did not like it :slight_smile: No help.

GREAT STUFF: Piano roll editing is fast, intuitive and works very well.

VOICES: I’ve tried Hayden and Solaria. Hayden is barely adequate, but works ok. I’d only use it for sketching, never for a final product. He simply sounds too strained. Solaria is stunning. I’d use her for a final release. They really need a male voice as good as Solaria. She is the reason to buy the product.

VERDICT: With the right voice, the result is nothing short of astounding. And most importantly – very musical. I’ve heard a few songs with Solaria on Spotify, and it was clear that they were not making the most of it. You have to go in and adjust timing and expressions, and you will be rewarded with a voice that sounds 99% as good as the real thing. For mission critical projects, I will hire a real singer, but I’ll give them the SV voice as a guide track.

Synthesizer V has quickly become a very valuable and useful tool in my workflow. I’m looking forward to a better male voice being released soon.

Are you absolutely sure that the tempo on Synth V track is the same as in Logic and FROM the beginning? I've had this happen to me a few times that if my song tempo is for example 105 and the singing starts from bar 9, then that 105 is inserted on bar 9 but at bar one the tempo shows 120. So make sure that you have the right tempo set at the very beginning in Synth V.
This could also explain your troubles with the wrong bar numbers in synth V vs. Logic.

With respect, I think this is an user error. Just arm the track in Logic but hit play and not record. Also it is a bit awkward trying to get into record mode because transport is not visible all the time! I'm so with you in this! So what I do is that I start play in Logic few bars before I need top lay into Synth V then click the empty place where the transport bar should be to get it appear. Then dbl-click the record button on Synth V transport bar to get it into recording. This works for me every time. You will also hear to what you are playing to.

This should work. I do also get this error sometimes. Make sure that that you have Synth V notes visible and not greyed out. The error that I seem to get sometimes is that there actually two notes stacked and getting rid of them and inserting the right note will correct the situation.

The ARA bridge only works - if it actually works as I haven't even tried it :-) - is with Logic in Rosetta mode. I prefer not to use it and work in Logic as a plug in mode running natively.

I agree with the voices. The female voices seem to work better, though Kevin is OK, depending if it suits the mood of the music you re making.

Working with Synth V is almost magical :-) to have a singer singing what you play and get it done fairly convincing is so wonderful that I literally smile when using the software - even with the flaws and and things that could be changed.

Of the male voices, I found Saros is the most usable for general purposes.
9 Zero is good for Hard Rock and Metal stuff.
Asterian is good on what it does, but it is ver niche.

While we wait for the release of V2.0 of Synth V (from the NAMM video, it looks very promising!) I leave here a song I made last year with Nine Zero as main vocalist and Saros as backing vocals.

Dreamtonics has announced the release of V2 for the 31st of March. More natural voices, faster processing, a new language (Korean), new parameters to control (the mouth opening one seems promising), new vocal modes, etc... also 2 new VBs will be available, you get to choose one out of the 2 new or the upgraded Mai V2. Current users can upgrade at a discount for both the editor and any voicebanks already owned. V2 will work as a separate product, so your projects made with V1 will keep working as expected (V1 projects will be working in V2, but apparently some parameters could change due to the difference in the versions).

The new Eclipsed Sounds VoiceBank seems that wil lbe perfect for our Hard Rock and Metal projects!

I think it's great other producers, that are not me, are using this piece of software.

I'm sorry about that demon producers. Please ignore "real" singer mindless suggestions. Keep on using Synthesizer V. Please, go on. This is exactly what people want to hear. No, I promise.

Synthesizer V V2 has been out for 10 days already. First impression is that is more flexible and capable, and some of the controls are more intuitive, but at the same time it still has some issues and there are pronunciation issues that needs resolving.
Also, the new voicebanks from Eclipsed sounds are out. I do not have Galenaia yet (is not aimed to styles I usually work), but HXVOC is a great addition. Also the new Dreamtonics voice Liam. These 2 help cover some extra ground for male-rock singers that was not covered or offered limited choice so far (only ninezero and Saros really worked for this).
I will be using them quite a bit in the future, but by now I just leave you my final creations with V1:
