I have an Apollo Twin X.
I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen. (That I have lent out to someone).

I need 8 or 16 more channels at home.

I'm thinking of either:

The Behringer UPhoria 18
or

The Tascam 16x

or
Something else?

Whatever I buy - might be nice to adat to the Apollo and/or the Focusrite, or Not.

I'm willing to throw $1000 at this.

I just got the Black Lion Audio Revolution EXP. 8 channels in/out. Sounds good, sets up easy, fairly inexpensive.

You need 8 or 16 more channels than the 2 on the apollo?

Or 8 or 16 more than the 10 you have with apollo and focusrite combined?

And 8....or 16?

And all mic pre?

And how do you intend combining if not by adat?

Why not get back the focusrite and add an adat expander (or 2) for 8 (or 16 more channels)

While the Apollo is out - I'm happy to get by with 8 or 10. (or 16). So that's the Apollo connected ADAT to an 8..... or I just by the Tascam 16.

If you want cheap high channel count motu is the way to go

I'm still a bit confused...as you mentioned owning the 18i20 I'm assuming that's because getting it back is an option??

Grab that back and connect the focusrite to the apollo for ten ins. The options you are looking at are certainly no better than the 18i20.

Yes I will eventually get the Scarlett18 back.
For now I'm good to buy something and get by on it plus the Apollo.

When I get the Scarlett18 back - it would be nice to ADAT it to another 8.

Unless someone says the TASCAM 16 is the way to go - as it has no ADAT, but is 16 all on it's own.

Just preamps, not an interface.

tascam and behringer are not that high on the reputation list. perhaps not awful, but not great.

you will probably be better off with something from motu. the 828 will likely run circles around anything tascam or behringer offers at the $1000-and-under price point.

I'm gonna be purchasing the exact same thing fairly soon. I've been looking at the ESI U168XT. Made in Germany. 16 inputs, monitoring, etc. Decent price.

Used Lynx Aurora v1. But finding those ADAT “L-slot” cards can be the hard part.

Hello, Are you still happy with the Revolution EXP? Had any issues with the gear or the clocking? I'm helping my brother set up a studio for his band and this seemed like a good fit. Just want to make sure I'm steering him in the right direction. Thanks!

It’s been perfect. It set up easily and has worked flawlessly ever since. It can clock with ADAT, but I decided to use word clock and it’s been rock solid. I don’t even think about it, as it is so integrated into my setup that I never need to touch it. Highly recommended.

ASP 880 - $1400 (over your price but wanted to include)
*ID48 - $999 - new interface but incredible with 32bit, inserts, 16 channel ADAT, standalone mode, etc., and you should then be able to use the Scarlett as your extra pres
ASP 800 - $900 (another poster recommended this excellent expander)
SSL Alpha 8 $900 (fantastic if you don’t need preamps)
Focusrite 8 channel Clarett octo pre ($800)
Focusrite 8 channel Scarlett octo pre ($500-$700) - the more expensive version includes compressors

*if you have $1000 the Audient ID48 I think is the best choice
