RME ADI-2 FS vs Pro

I have the RME ADI-2 FS, which I use for headphone mixing and AD converter for mono sources. Is the Pro worth the upgrade. I won’t use the eq features, just strictly about sound and fidelity

Both audibly transparent only the Pro has A/D though.

No, I wish they were more distinct in there names. I’m referring to the lower priced ad da version vs the pro, both have ad and my primary use

i heard the blackface series DA at AES. phenomenal. a clear cut above my Apogee Duet 2. no preamps included, and no direct monitoring of the analog input path.

blackface is their highest signal quality product line. if you can live without preamps and without analog direct monitoring, buy one with a 100% return policy and see if it replaces your current silverface box.

The Pro FS black has pretty flexible routing. You can indeed go Analog in to Analog out if you want.

Wish someone could answer the original question a bit… I too am interested in whether the pro is a big upgrade over the cheaper adi-2 fs (other than including usb) particularly the headphone amp..

And, really are the black and silver versions of the same name different machines or just different covers?

I’ve got both. The pro is ever so slightly more refined.

Worth upgrading? Nah.

They both sound identical, unsighted level matched comparison is a must , the Pro has more features.

But both audibly transparent, I made the comparison here years ago unsighted.
Both excellent bits of kit, ASR has measured them.

Afaik Asr hasn’t done the current adi-2, just the dac and pro versions

The old silver face pro from 2017 uses the same akm4490 dac chip as the Adi-2 fs but 2 of them, instead of one.
The latest UFXII / III use them, too and sound closest to the Adi-2 fs.

The latest black edition uses the akm4493 and definitely sounds best.

The Adi-2 FS is not on the same level, sound and feature wise, especially as a hp amp.

Easy to measure and checked by ear with decent equipment.

How do I know?
I owned all of them and still own 4 incl. the Dac fs.

You really must compare level matched and unsighted.
