I'm not currently a Pro Tools user and have a few questions about their subscriptions, perpetual licenses, support plans and sales. Any help greatly appreciated!

1. Does Avid ever do sales on Pro Tools subscriptions and/or perpetual licenses? If so, when do such sales take place, typically, and how steep are they?
2. If I buy a perpetual license and let the 1-year support plan expire, can I buy a new 1-year support plan later (like, e.g. years later), or will I have to buy a Pro Tools upgrade license in that case?
3. If I purchase a monthly subscription and turn auto-renewal off, is it hassle-free to just buy a single month of subscription at any time or are there any strings attached? It's not a 100% clear to me from Avid's knowledge base articles. I'm in a situation where I don't use Pro Tools myself, but I need to open sessions from other people every now and then, so subscribing for a month here and there whenever I need seems like a good option. Am I correct?

In short:

1. I've bought PT licenses/reinstatements on a discount before, but they're not often or regular. Been some time now.

2. An expired updade/support plan on a perpetual license can be purchased at any time in the future at no extra cost.

3. Pretty sure you're correct. In addition to my perpetual license w/supportplan, I have an expired subscription license that I expect I can revive at any time for a month or year should I want to.

It was only last year that Avid cleaned up their licensing/pricing policy and got rid of the 'fine for letting perpetual expire' and made things more convenient.

Important to remember; any license you buy thru your Avid web site account will start running immediately, whereas if you buy from a reseller, you get a code that you can activate on your account when it suits you.
