Not sure what I did. I think actually it may have been from using a heater on the same circuit as my UFX, but it seems fried. no sound but meters running. can't get inputs to work. sigh. Going to of course, see if it can be fixed for a reasonable price but wanted to check what else is out there. It's been a decade since I really looked at anything.

I really don't want to spend much but I also don't want to compromise. so I lean towards fewer inputs and outputs while maintaining great latency and best. AD/DA possible.

UFX was WAY overkill for me in terms of inputs. I really only need 2 mics and 2 line ins. Single headphone out is fine along with monitor outs.

My inclination is the UCX II. Still overkill but not quite as much as the UFX. More than I want to spend but if I get another 10 years out of it I guess it's ok.

Whats new these days? What's going to give me basically rock-solid drivers, great latency and amazing converters? UCX is their newest so I think they're best converters but not quite sure. Any industry shake ups going on that I missed?

EDIT: ok so it looks like it might actually be the power supply. god I hope so. will be opening it up soon to figure it out but will be nice to save some cash!

My UFX recently stopped working, turned out to be the power supply needed to be re-capped. $15 in parts and a couple hours work, DIY or hire a tech.

RME Babyface FS works like a charm here. (since 2 years). recorded 2 albums with it, everything ok. drivers are rock stable, you have the digicheck software. I love it for 700 bucks.

Yah baby face seems like the most obvious spot. However I always like to reach a little higher than I should hehe. I think the UCX is using better converters and pres. Do I need them? Probably not. But I am interested. If the are equivalent then the baby face is the obvious choice.

Thanks. Def going to try to fix it. I am seeing meters showing output but not getting any output. Input seems to not be working at all. Anyways will go through rme to diagnose problem. Hopefully ok!

Nah the Babyface is fine and I doubt the UCX be better.

I just saw this and must say I am salivating. 2 channel in is really tight though. 4 would make this thing a formidable beast. But I could maaaaaybe get by with the two…..

My UFX+ died a few months ago.

I took it to a tech. , they fixed the power supply. Didn't cost much.

The tech. told me that it would be a good idea to turn the UFX+ OFF once or twice a month to give the circuits a break from the heat. This will prolong its life, and avoid having power-supply issues.

ADI-2 doesn't have mic preamps

There's the new ADI-2/4, bit more useful as an interface, but again no mic preamps.

That's the one I am referring to. I only see 2 analog inputs. Lots of digital inputs, though. Anyways a bit out of my price range, I think.

Mine is still on and weirdly is not registering any issues on the screen. Drivers all updated fine too. I'm going to reach out to support and figure this out. I want to wish its user error but after 10 years I'm pretty sure I know how this thing works.

In RME parlance it's a converter not an interface. No Totalmix integration unless you use it with another RME interface.

I had the ADI-2 here in a shootout vs Merging Anubis. Liked the sound and form factor of the latter but couldn't get it to work reliably. Also ran hot.

The ADI's lack of TM and pre's eventually made me buy the BFP FS. The ADI is a hassle to record with. Happy with the BFP: sounds good, stable and super low latency.

makes total sense. while reading about it, it's clear it is not meant for recording. would be great to crossover but a babyface or UCX II will be my solution if I have to replace I think. Can't deny RME's mind-blowingly rock-solid drivers.
