Yay! Apogee added MacOS 11 (intel and M1) support for (old skool) users like me who invested in a Symphony I/O mkI and ThunderBridge back in the day.

I was wondering if anyone out there has had any luck upgrading and gotten the interface to be recognized via thunderbolt?

I tried installing the Symphony System Release 5.5 Installer update tonight but I can’t seem to get the thunderbolt connection working. It just blinks red and doesn’t detect the chassis.

I reached out to Apogee support since it looks like I’m running the latest firmware on the Symphony I/O (1.6.48) and it appears like the drivers are installed (and not in the disabled section when I check System Utilities.) My Mac Pro running 11.6 is circa 2013 but continuing to work great.

As much as I would have liked to update to a new mkII chassis the cards I have aren’t supported and I can’t justify ~$4k to upgrade everything. So, hoping to figure out how to get this working. I love this device when it’s working and am stoked Apogee is trying to support OG users like me.

Update the apogee support team was super helpful. Got it working. Had to remove some old conflicting extensions, touch the extensions folder using terminal and that more or less fixed things. The new extension is loading and my vintage symphony i/o is back in action. One downside is Big Sur seems to have a thunderbolt issue where on a device reboot I have to hot swap the thunderbolt cable to get my thunderbridge to be recognized (else it’s unpowered.) This is annoying enough that I’ll probably just use USB until apple addresses this issue. Apparently this is impacting other thunderbolt devices.

Thinking about updating my setup, I have a late 2013 Mac Pro and two Symphony mk1 units and a thunderbridge. Basically the same setup you have.

Have you noticed any other issues aside from the hot swap thing?
