Xlr connections - scarlett 6i6 - can i use trs for mic level?

Hi all!

I have recieved a 2nd gen scarlett 6i6 from a friend where the xlr jacks are not working. A trs connection works, however Its quiet and I can see from that manual that mic line is only activated when an xlr is connected. Im also planning on using a condenser mic, will i be able to use phantom power over trs? Is there any way around these issues or will I need to replace the jacks (or get an external mic preamp) for it to work? Thanks a bunch!

No you can't get phantom over the TRS and the input is fixed at line level.

External pre would work.

Replacing the jacks (I guess you mean sockets) won't help if the issue is in the circuit that follows it...which seems much more likely than the connectors themselves developing a fault.

You might want to take a look at the XLR solder joints, and while in there, clean those sockets....., both the XLR's and where the TRS's make contact when closed.

Thank you all! This is making me consider a golden age preamp as a win-win - that way I can use the two front inputs for instruments and connect the mic preamp to a line input in the back.
