yes it did drop. i received a mail with a key to upgrade my altiverb 7 for free since i bought it recently plus the download for 8.0.3. here's a youtube video showing altiverb 8 linked in the mail (uploaded 3 months ago but it's a hidden video on youtube)

Is it AS now? Any news if they will allow it to run on more than 1 machine for a single user, and NO dongle (machine-based authorisation), finally? I certainly hope so...

I really dislike their practice of authorisation and wish they finally changed it. I know I am not alone. This was a missed opportunity. Hopefully the release will be AS native, at least. And machine based authorisation, not on a stupid USB dongle. They are the only ones who still do this out of all of my plugin makers, literally. Pretty frustrating.

Let's start with the positive: finally we have M1 AS native and machine activation. This is really great.

I wrote them yesterday and got a quick reply. I asked them about the single machine activation being updated so people with both a studio and a laptop could conveniently use the software they had purchased without a huge, inspiration-breaking hassle to do so.

Basically they said that they had no way to be sure Folks were not cheating them and using it on two studio machines, or whatever. So, they opted to keep it at the single-machine authorisation for each user. In a world where your software is primarily being used in production houses with multiple workstations, that probably was a thing. However, in 2023 where most of us have both a laptop and a studio machine and are working in multiple locations, this is arcane and pretty out of touch with what I think a large part of the music-making users are needing and wanting. They missed an opportunity to adresse this with this release, I believe.

So, after all of these years, I still have to ask myself if I want to deal with the absolute hassle of trying to find a way to activate their plugin in any of my sessions on my laptop (my USB dongle lives in the studio on my studio machine). Usually the answer is no... this is a real shame, because the program is great, their interface is really nice and well-though out, the thing sounds great! But, my first feeling when I think to use it is not; "great this will be fun and inspiring to my creative process"; rather, it is "ugh, I don't want to deal with this", and I move on.

I truly wish they would fix this and add a second authorisation to my license, as literally all of my other plugin manufacturers have managed to find a way to trust me with this responsibility and not seek to cheat them. To illustrate this, here is at the list of all the plugins I use that have given me 2, or even 3 authorisations for my plugins:

Would be nice if AudioEases' Altiverb was part of that list and not on its' own as the only one which does not do so.

Hopefully this will change on the future.

So aside from the 2 authorization thing (I put ALL my authorizations on an iLok thumb drive that has ZDT insurance and I have never had an issue, just move it to a different system)...

Really liking the upgrade and it is wonderful to have Altiverb on Apple M2 Sonoma in ProTools again!

Yea my enthusiasm for AudioEase has hit a snag...they really are not showing much customer love...$89 to get my newer version of #7 to run on a ProTools M2 (they call it #8 ) computer...and no love for folks like you who need 2 authoz...

I guess they are depending on their ruptation to carry them through the holidays in spite of being waaaaaay late in bringing Silicone and AAX support.

Out of curiosity, what would 2-rooms-two-machines-in-the-same-building look like setupwise as to needing double instances of the plug?

My reverbs are all installed on one windows11 slave....freely routable to other win11 Cubase/Nuendo slaves/master in the studio via my audio patch bays.

I only need singular licenses for that routing.

Been interested in Altiverb but won’t buy anything without a minimum of 2 authorisations, dongle or machine.

Casual observation: quite a few of these prestige one-authorisation brands who are presumably selling multiple $$$ copies to post houses have also been exceedingly slow in updating their products.

In my case, I have a Windows surface in my practice/recording section of the room, and a Mac Mini for edit/mix, and yes, they may both run at the same time, and in itself it'd be tedious not being able to 1:1 share projects from one to the other and back when needed. I could in theory have a network machine for reverbs like you do, though sometimes the Surface goes with me too.

I'm not a pro, not earning my life in this, so I don't see this as a life threatening constraint, but I still think Audioease are paranoid and it feels like hidden greed.

Anyway, I'm selling my Altiverb soon, have a couple of projects to move first, then it's the EOL for it here. As it seems it won't be hard to get rid of for anyone in more urgency of a second licence than I ever was.

+1 Interested in the upgrade, but disappointed the authorization scheme has not been updated. In 2023, iLok can securely offer more than one authorization via machine or cloud. Even Universal Audio, probably the most paranoid plug-in developer around, allows 2 authorizations per user.

And it's a very simple thing to fix for the developer, as it's just a change of policy settings in the iLok administrator tools.

I know Softube is doing so and I'm falling in love with them a little bit. I don't need that many ilok activations but the extra license thing really makes me feel safe

Neural DSP, UVI and Moog all offer 3 activations.

Even Zynaptiq now offer 2 with their latest release. Out of the 1200+ plugins in my collection, only Audioease and VSL are sticking stubbornly to just 1 measly activation.

It can only be because they consider their main business post and music an after thought - certainly feels that way as their customer - hard to fathom as some many have a studio computer and laptop in music production....

Instead the business critical users appreciate a second license for backup, should an iLok key break or a computer with an activation break down etc. to minimize downtime.
