Bumping this vs a new thread.
As I seem to have exhausted all the options for this to work, I just can't figure it out, not from YT videos, tutorials, nothing, deeming that perhaps the hardware itself was no longer supported.
Simply put, I was hoping to use this Maschine Mikro2 only as a pad controller inside Logic, without using the Maschine software, instead only to trigger things like Drummer, Battery, even other synths and instruments, etc, I just wanted to use its pads to trigger midi, as opposed to using my keyboard keys.
As an alternative option, I brought home an AKAI MPD 218 a few days ago.
Almost a week in and still trying to figure out how to make it work properly, wether with the bundled MPC Beats software (not pretty nor efficient in any way) or inside Logic as a controller (a bit more luck there but a bit disappointed in the pad sensitivity. I thought this would be the most straightforward setup of any kit I've owned in the past 25 years, but alas, I was dead surprised at how clunky this whole AKAI thing is.
I even for a second considered perhaps jumping to the new MPC Studio 2.
Nice form factor, compact, slick, kinda sexy, but not sure if I want to learn the AKAI ecosystem. I really never planned on learning new software nor gathering another few GB of samples...I'm good with all that, I really just wanted to use the pads. The software was just bonus and didn't want to brush it off entirely, thought I'd give it a shot, but it's been a letdown thus far.
This leads to me to 3 options.
- First and most favored option; keep my Maschine Mikro2 and hope that someone can chime in and determine with utmost certainly whether or not it can be used only as a controller in Logic, in which case, I'm all set and will look no further.
-Give the AKAI MPC Studio 2 a try.
Despite what I wrote above, the nags and such, for the price, it seems like a nice little package.
-Go with the Mikro mk3 and call it a day.
I like the mk3, it's cute AF and offers a lot for a decent price, I just feel like it's overkill to use only as a controller as I never liked the Maschine software. Could work well for triggering Battery though!
