I have 3 reverb busses in my project template. Drum, short, and long. And in the tracking phase I have algo reverbs on all 3 (Nimbus currently). I am pretty sure it is more cpu efficient using 3 instances of the same verb over using different verbs. I, like I'm sure a lot of guys do, will track a little, mix a little. I mean, once I record a little and know a guitar track will be panned left I go on and do that then track the next instrument. I have the lowest cpu plugs on the tracks and busses. For instance, I will use the waves Rcomps on busses and tracks during the tracking phase to keep cpu as low as possible, and of course this is all done in anticipation of needing to record virtual instruments with low latency.
But once I get all the tracking done, then I can crank the buffers up even as far as 4096 if needed and then I start swapping plugs for the good stuff. I change the 3 reverb plugs to Nebula verbs, like VNXT plates. I change to all my fav comps and start adding effects, Eventide pitch shifters and all the fun stuff. I burn in tape plugs like IK tapes and Nebula tapes.
But yep, on verbs, I use the lowest cpu verbs, which are algo verbs until I am done tracking.
Waves AR verbs, especially Chambers are the new kings of cpu use, way higher than even Nebula verbs. Nebula verbs are the best sounding imo. As soon as I put one on the naturalness and feel of them is simply more real to my ears than even normal convo verbs like Altiverb and Waves IR. Waves chambers has caught up in amazing sound, but I simply can't use it. I have to burn it in and I just hate doing that with verb because the verb amounts can change so much during mixes. There is a way around that too of course, just clone the track and burn in the reverb at 100 percent then mix with that after the reverb plug is off.
But a list of verbs and the CPU they use would be great. I would use any algo verbs during tracking if it's cpu use is low because I will be switching to Nebula verbs anyway once tracking is over with. So it would be nice to know if, say, Acon Verberate uses less cpu than Nimbus or Valhalla verbs .
