I'm searching your help. I’m a musician and don’t have a big tech knowhow. I use Ableton live for Live Performances and producing. As my old MacBook struggle with the Pianoteq software, I bought an Apple M1 Macbook. But since two years I couldn’t find a way to use my old audio-interface (RME fireface 400) with my new M1 MacBook. I tried many many ways and used the RME support a lot. But nothing helped. When I browse in the internet this problem with audio interfaces and apple silicon chip MacBooks (M1 + M2) occurs quite often, although sometimes with the same gear it functions. Has anyone experience with a possible solution?

I want to play live piano with my Kawai controller, guitar, vocals + synths. And also I would like to use an orchestral strings plugin for producing.

It would be cool to use voice, 2 guitars + keys via USB at the same time. But I would also be happy with 2 guitars or 1 guitar/ 1 vocal at the same time.

The most important thing is that the interface fits to my M1 MacBook and that it sounds good.

Do you have experience with a possible solution with recommended interface?

RME has driver support for M CPUs for the Fireface 400, so I don't know if you're doing it the right way and what you've tried so far. Perhaps before spending money, detail what you've tried?

Yes, I installed the RME driver, followed step by step the manual, checked out the forum and had contact with the support which doesn't know why it doesn' t function. I really would like to buy a new interface. But when I browse in the internet, every interface which is recommended by someone specific for Apple silicone macbooks (Scarlett 4i4, RME babyface, Audient ID4 MkII, ...) seems to have a high probability to not function with some M1 macbook users.

So I thought in this forum someone knows this problem and can recommend a specific interface which seems to work best with M1 computers for my work...

It's very common to miss the security steps depending on the driver you're using, if it's the kernel mode driver, there are many more steps depending on your OS version.

The zero effort option is interfaces that need NO driver (class-compliant). The latency won't be as good as RME but maybe you don't mind.

Focusrite for example are class-compliant and need zero drivers.

MOTU can work as either class-compliant or with a driver for lower latency.

Recent RME have full support for M Macs, they'll work.

But if you're tech-challenged then the zero-driver option ensures you will never have problems.

universal audio volt interfaces are probably the best budget interfaces on the market. if you want to go a step up, there's the apollo units, or something like the neve 88m or neumann mt48.

I have no idea if I don't mind the latency... ? I won't mind if I don't hear it... I'll check the focusrite Scarlett 4i4 out and the RME babyface.

Sounds amazing, very nice features.
I had some drivers issues at first, but it's fixed since some time now...

any current interface you buy new will have drivers (native or class complient) for Mac M1. TBH even the cheap ones sound great these days.

I've used a Steinberg UR 22-c interface live for years. Works great and is cheap as chips.

I have the Audient ID14 Mk II and the drivers work fine for me. I really like the interface for portability and I use it with my iPad Pro as well.
