Im looking for an Interface which offers me at least 24 Channels AD/DA. 32 would even be better.

I want to use it with my D&R Orion. It has 24 Mono Channels and 12 Stereo Channels. I want to track my Synths and Samplers thru the Orion and record thru Tape Out. Then arrange my Stuff in the DAW and go once again thru the Orion to mix it. So the tracks will go thru the Tape Inputs into the Orion.

4 Of the Stereo Channels are for the FX Returns. So I have 32 channels for Tracking and Mixing.

The Interfaces which match my needs are:

Antelope Orion
Lynx Aurora 16 (i would use 2 of these)
Presonus Quantum
Ferrofish A32
Ferrofisch A16 (which has better specs then the A32) i would use 2 of these

Any comments on this Interfaces? Have you used one of these? Any other contenders?

I would add MOTU to your list as well, all of the units you list are very decent quality but the newer units will tend to sound a little better (I still own the SSL Alphalink out of convenience, not because it beats anything on sonics). That PreSonus Quantum range is an incredible value our of all you list.

i suggest getting an rme madi interface (or the new madi/dante interface) and converters of choice; can recommend andiamo from directout technologies which would give 32 analalog i/o's; you still have 32 more i/o's from/to the pc should you ever need to expand.

The new Lynx Aurora N interfaces have units with up to 32 ins and outs. A friend of mine has one and the conversion sounds excellent.

ya love to hear some suggestions got a very similar set of needs, thinking madi interface with a ferrofish a32.
I have a 32 channel inline desk and a load of hardware synths.
What decision did you make ?

The prices are horrible right now. No one seem to know what they should ask for…

I do not know what the guys went for 3 years ago, but I know, that if you have an old in-line desk, it won’t scream for superhighend converters. I’m in a similar situation. I had had an RME FF 400 and I loved it, rock solid. I sold it to buy an Apollo X6. I love that two, but now I have a mixing desk and I can’t afford two Apollo X16. And to run and record a bunch of old synths or noise synths via an inline console… they are overkill. Not that I would not like to have them, but not for this money now (6000+ USD in EU).
Most of the 1 or 2U rack devices are 2500+ USD… still too much.

Hence I’m drawn towards RME Digiface USB + four Behringer ADA8200. This 32 channels I/O solution costs around 1150 USD now. I know that Behringer has low reputation but these converters with improved Midas preamps and Cirrus processors are absolutely useable.

If you already have an interface with ADAT I/O, just buy one, test it. If you like it, you can go for a setup e.g I mentioned before.

Digiface USB or MOTU LP32 + 2 Ferrofish Pulses and be done with it.

Currently running a MOTU 828x with a Pulse for a total of 24 ins and outs to Cubase and an old inline 24 channel SoundCraft console. Planning on getting another and swapping out the 828x with probably the LP32 (has word clock unlike the RME along with an actual volume knob for the headphone out, plus the OLED screen for only $50 more). The Pulse was one of the best purchases I ever made. Had an ADA8200 before that, it was ok, nothing special and having a bunch of XLR to 1/4" cables sticking out the front of my rack running into the back of it was not ideal..

Depends on how you want to use it with your DAW (assuming you're not DAWless).
If you have a Mac you can use Thunderbolt with PC you may use Thunderbolt from either motherboard or add-on card and save on a dedicated converter/card. For Dante, MADI or AVB (etc) you'll need aditional interfacing. USB also can be connected more easily but comes with higher overall latency.

Mind you that some of those interfaces come with addional ADAT ports and allow you to hook up additional AD/DA's depending if you stay simplex 44.1/48kHz or go for duplex like 88.2/96kHz.

Myself I have the RME Madi FX with the Orion32+ Gen3 and Ferrofish A32 Pro. I favor the Ferrofish myself but the ADAT outputs are bugged and a upcoming firmware upgrade should fix it (they said to me). Soundwise they are on par with each other and both have different features that you like or dislike.
