The prices are horrible right now. No one seem to know what they should ask forβ¦
I do not know what the guys went for 3 years ago, but I know, that if you have an old in-line desk, it wonβt scream for superhighend converters. Iβm in a similar situation. I had had an RME FF 400 and I loved it, rock solid. I sold it to buy an Apollo X6. I love that two, but now I have a mixing desk and I canβt afford two Apollo X16. And to run and record a bunch of old synths or noise synths via an inline consoleβ¦ they are overkill. Not that I would not like to have them, but not for this money now (6000+ USD in EU).
Most of the 1 or 2U rack devices are 2500+ USD⦠still too much.
Hence Iβm drawn towards RME Digiface USB + four Behringer ADA8200. This 32 channels I/O solution costs around 1150 USD now. I know that Behringer has low reputation but these converters with improved Midas preamps and Cirrus processors are absolutely useable.
If you already have an interface with ADAT I/O, just buy one, test it. If you like it, you can go for a setup e.g I mentioned before.
