There is a real gap in the mid sized market.

What's really missing is the stuff that takes only little space like the artist but is actually of a very high build quality.
Well there is some of it, but not much.
Personally I think there are many good reasons for that.
1. Quality components are expensive, more expensive that most users are willing to pay for.
2. The perfect feature set doesn't seem to exist. It's pretty much different for everyone you talk to, let alone the layout of them.
3. The protocols and possibilities vary too much between DAWs.
You either end up with something generic or something proprietary.
I haven't seen anything new to try and fight that since the Steinberg modular things, which I thought were a good step.
The best cost effective way to do it for me is DTouch or Raven MTi2.
I know the DTouch guys are considering a faderbank to line up with a 27" screen.
It'll be low profile and won't get in the way of the touch screen. Maybe for those hell bent on physical faders (I'm not), This will prove to be the best solution.
Hell. Nothing has impressed me on the hardware controller market in a long long time. I'm not holding my breath, neither I think should anyone. I know it's not what most people want to hear but ask your self if it's such a no brainer product why hasn't anyone released it in the last decade? It was surely technically feasible all this time.
We'll see. I agree that the artist mix form factor is closest to what looks both low profile and functional.
