Clarett 8pre woes

"Hi!\r\n\r\nI recently decided it was time to upgrade my 6 year old iMac with a new one that would last just a s long. \r\nWith it I decided to get a Clarett 8pre that we heard so much things about.\r\n\r\nAs it turns out (out after much chatting with the Focusrite fellas) there is an issue with the Clarett range and the particular iMac I bought. The problem is that I get drop out galore when using it for just about anything. \r\n\r\nSo, while Focusrite works hard on figuring out a solution I left thinking if there might be another solution for me. This where you lot come in. \r\n\r\nPreviously I had an Apogee Duet Firewire which has served me nicely over the years, but since Apple dropped Firewire support in CoreAudio is no longer feasible to use, since I am going to upgrade to newer systems as they are released.\r\nBut I did like the quality of the preamps. \r\n\r\nMost of the time I do tracking, but every once in a while it would've been nice with 4 preamps (at least). I have also missed a S\/PDIF input and maybe get rid of my separate MIDI interface.\r\n\r\nSo.\r\n\r\nCan you recommend something to me other than the Clarett that has:\r\n\r\n4 nice preamps (more is ok)\r\nS\/PDIF coaxial input (AES\/EBU is fine too, XLR)\r\nMIDI I\/O (DIN connectors)\r\nReal low latency\r\nStable drivers\r\n\r\nAround $1000 \r\n\r\nI am also open to a combination of a cheaper interface with maybe an ADAT in to put a nicer preamp and A\/D with. As long as the software is good and it's stable.\r\n\r\n:thumbsup:"

I've had an 8PreX and an Octopre for a couple of years and just stumbled on this thread. In the beginning I had a lot of unexplained pops and clicks, especially when using the Octopre through lightpipe. That all went away when I got an external clock so I assumed it was a clocking issue. I'm on a Mac mini though.
