That has been blown off. It was never UAs job to do it but TCs. I guess Behringer put an end to that nonsense when they bought the company.

They are of course not stating the reason, but it's not unlikely that would be the case.

Given Behringer's recent history of releasing good products at great prices, a line of plugins moderately priced could be a pleasant surprise down the road. Who knows...

D16 just released Decimort2, it includes a preset called 'SP-1200' also has 'ASR-10' or 'MPC60' presets.

While I agree that I find it strange that people feel the need to have so many compressors I think that you might be getting a bit ideological here.

I think we all have tools that we connect with in one way or the other and it is rarely for rational reasons.
I don't think that mpr3 needs an LA3A to make a good mix, but s/he has really connected with that piece of gear and knows the ins and outs of it.
If you are enjoying the process it's very likely that you'll get a better end result. Plus, knowing you tools is key.

Every guitarist probably have at least one favourite guitar that s/he does not want to be without. That doesn't mean that they can't make great music without it. It just means that they enjoy making music with it.

Just because Israel Kamakawiwoʻole had a big hit with just vocals and ukulele doesn't mean that it's all you'll ever need or want to use to make music.

I think if you understand my post, it should be clear to you that my point is not to deny people to have their favorite tools that they can get the best results with.

My point is that the belief that famous analog gear is superior to some DAWs stock compressor is ideological.

Many people reading this will strongly disagree with me, of course, but those people are for the most part believers in the ideology rather than people who have actually made the effort to take years to use both and compare their results in an unbiased way (through blind listening tests by themselves and others).

So if we take your argument and apply it to say umm the world at large, suddenly every craftsman, be it a chef or a carpenter or violinist who chooses a $5,000 bow, which according to your ear only sounds 2% better than the $50 chinese bow, they are all idiots for choosing the tools they deem 'preferable' in the face of consumers who will never know, or even care what they actually use.

As far as I understand our conversation thus far, I have with no word denied anybody to use the tools they prefer, however cheap or expensive they may be. You have, however, suggested, without knowing who i am, that my "amateur ear" may not be capable to hear the superiority of a hardware LA3A to whatever software compressor.

My original post was meant to be a useful post to keep people from falling for all the marketing non-sense and buying their hundreth compressor plugin in the illusive hope of finally achieving "that sound". That is all.

Once I wrote here on GS that DSP exaggerates conversion artifacts, making good conversion earsier to identify in a mix full of plugins. Many guys here thought that was dumb, and maybe they are right, but in the end you must trust your ears right?

I will let this go, but for the record, the difference between 'need' and 'want' is enough to warrant the existence of this website.

Technically, all I need to make music is a DAW and the stock plugins / instruments. I have produced over 800 songs in 23 years (raised 3 kids on the fruits of my decision making), and in doing so I have developed a taste for certain tools, in certain applications.

Taste does not dictate necessity. The fact that I prefer the LA3A on some (not all) vocals over the LA2A doesn't mean I can't use the stock digi compressor and call it a day, even if I walk away knowing that a little more emotion 'could' have been extracted or highlighted with the right tool. Screw it, the artist won't ever know right?

Taste also guides me as to when its time to jump ship from the hardware into the software version which I have done many times. I am not a hardware snob and I do not worship any brands, but I do consider myself a connoisseur of great tone, and when I hear it, I like to share.

This website is founded on the principal of taste. One guy likes this, another guy likes that. Perhaps my own taste will align with one of those two guys, or maybe not. Lets find out. Thats GSlutz in a nutshell.

I agree. Nothing you say here conflicts with my original post. My original post isn't addressing people like you. My original post is addressing the many, many people on GS who lose sight of what matters amidst the endless plugin options and all the marketing that tells them they need this tool and that tool to spark their creativity and finally enable them to get great results. A significant portion of the people on this forum have not produced 800 songs and have not raised 3 kids with their work, probably haven't even produced a dozen songs or made any money at all, but have still spent 10k on hardware and plugins because they thought that would be the key and change things for them.

And I strongly feel that the world has more than enough compressor plugins. That's just my opinion of course.
