I've been trying out this puppy for a few days:

REQ-2.2 Resonance Mastering Equalizer

First impressions are very good. Sounds really quite different from my Ibis EQ. The shelving options are killer. Need to play with it a bit more, but I think this goes to very nearly the top of my shopping list. Got some great results already with it. The colour options are also very useful - kinda like two EQs in one really.

But i want to give a major to the build quality on this thing. I've been trying the one with the Elma switches, and it's got a superb, chunky feel to it. I don't think i ever had my sweaty little hands on such a well built and solid piece of kit. And the layout is very good and well thought out too.

I love mine... got rid of most of my other EQ's... soon it will just be the REQ2.2, the Bax and The Weiss EQ1Mk2... with these tools anything is possible.

Build quality is fantastic on the REQ2.2 and Tim's support is even better.

Shelving is magical and rivals the Sontecs!

I putting in an order for one of these today.

A question to the guys who have one: it turns out that i've actually been demoing the Palazzo version. Did anyone have their hands on both? The Elmas are supposed to be a bit lighter in feel, but is it a big difference? Anything else to consider when choosing which version?

I think forum member Da Goose is in your neighborhood. He used Elmas in his monitor controller. Maybe you could check out the feel and see if you care.

So which version did you take at the end? Palazzo or Elma?

I got the all Elma version.

If anyone is thinking about buying but doesn't know which one to get, another (cheaper) option would be to specify Palazzos for the frequency & bandwidth switches, but Elmas for the cut / boost. Because the Palazzos on the frequency & bandwidth feel fine, but the Palazzos on the cut /boost are really stiff and don't have a nice feeling to them.

Elma switches really are the best! I use elma's in my monitorcontroller indeed but also as the threshold in my gssl and on the threshold of my optical tube compressor (could get them pretty cheap) and they really rock! They are really expensive if you compare 'm to other switchesbut they are really worth it. In my monitorcontroller i use 'break before make' but i wish it was a 'make before break' because it's popping a bit now.

Back on topic.. the buzz really looks nice! Love to play with it, looks like you can't let it go when you have it indeed. With elma's it will be a killer eq i think but you will only need elma's for boost/cut, they are 24 steps and the freq/bandwith are 12 steps and lorlins or other switches will do fine.
24 steps switches are pretty rare.. nothing beats the elma's

That 4 decker I ordered for you IS shorting (mbb). Elma only makes the non shorting version on request...expensive I guess.

Yesterday, I have played also with the Req 2.2 Elma version. The sound is so sweet, compact, full in the bass, even with just 0,5 db of boost or cut. The HF is different from the Bax, so sweet and silky.
It's my first real analog eq after the Massive Passive that I didn't keep. Completly different beasts, the Buzz Req 2.2 is perfect for every band of frequency from bass, medium to high.
I remastered some tracks that I did master with digital equalizer plugins like Nebula. Everything is slightly more clear, full and detailed. Fantastic piece of gear.

I have had my REQ-2.2 for a two weeks now and am in love
with this box...
This in combination with the Foote master comp does the most good
with the least damage to program material of any chain I have used.
The Buzz is really freaky in its ability to lift or tuck instruments in
the track without adverse effects on the rest of the material.
Also as a side note the Pallazo switches are not so bad..
a little stiff but not a thousand dollars stiff!

Yes, I'm playing also the Buzz with the P3S ME and Rockruepel. Absolutely amazing and georgeous combo. You are right the Req 2.2 and P3S ME are made with the same taste for high quality and transparent sound.

Big question we're all asking ourselves (ok, I'm asking myself ), what will a Sontec do that the Buzz will not do, and vice versa?

In my limited experience with the Sontec and Massenburg units the
operation is a little more subtle and transparent. The Buzz adds a little weight and is generally slightly more colorful. The shelving on the REQ sounds as smooth as the Sontec but not exactly the same. I think at the end of the day if you can't do a great master on either of these you have problems.I am really happy with this unit after agonizing in classic gearslutz manner on which EQ to get as the main analogue mastering unit for my studio.I am getting a BAX in a couple days to add that love and in conjunction with the EQ in my MIO console and the Sonorus EQ I can't picture needing anything else for a while.

I've been playing with the Buzz as well and will report back soon. This thing has bucket loads of power and is build like a tank!
