I was hoping that so many people agreeing that CAD makes some nice mics, and that some of them are very nice and exceptional bargains as well, would let the OP feel like his message had been heard and found some agreement, albeit with (what seem to me largely reasonable and realistic) qualifications. Fwiw, I see "reviews" of mics by lots of users on GS whose recordings are terrible or simply non-existent. And everyone always picks on u87s because yes they are fuggin overpriced! It's not perfect but I have learnt alot more from the gear samples and shoot out threads than the "what to buy".

Despite the extreme hyperbole on this thread, I'm sure the ES100S is probably a good mic for the money, and there are lots of good reviews to back that up.

I do want to point out that while the mic is assembled in the US, the capsule is imported according to recording hacks:

Cool -- definitely looks like a unique mic all around. And 3.7 dba self noise could come in handy on an 'all purpose' mic. Side note: the only mic I have with close to that figure is the NT1a, but it was more of what I would consider a 'no purpose' mic due to the unpleasant HF peak... It sat unused for years until I swapped the capsule out for a high quality chinese capsule, and now it sounds fantastic.

Seriously stunned by this thread.

I clicked on it thinking there was something I could identify with as I too love the CAD e100s, in fact if you search my posts I have sung its' praises on numerous occasions and have now purchased my 3rd and 4th in recent weeks, I think they are that good.

It's threads like this that keep people from participating in this community, pissing contests and 'shouting' matches ultimately ruin the spirit and goodwill that many have shared in this forum. This is a place for ideas and discussion, people are certainly going to have differing opinions and perspective, but playing a game of 'one-up-manship' serves nobody's best interest.

I am happy the the OP found a mic he loves, that 'does it' for him, I have a similar love for this mic. But we must remember that mics are tools, for us to use and learn, to find a place for them in our methodology, saying one mic is better than all others is short-sited and closed minded.

Buy good tools, learn them, love them...share your passions and knowledge freely and don't stomp on other people if you happen to disagree with them. This is a good place to meet good people who share something in common from the start, we all love music and recording it, that's why we are here.

Well who knew I tried these with the Buzz Audio. I am gonna keep them. They still sound like what they are $300 mics, but with the Buzz I can see some uses for them in multimic simulations where my Rode or Neumann may be used for more important pieces.
