If you know someone at GC the employee discount for an ST69 is in the $225 range and at that price it is a great deal. I have one and a vintage 90s NT1 waiting for when I have time to mod it and they both have their uses, can't speak for the new nt1 but for voice over type stuff the nt1 I have tends to give better intelligibility; for anything else I usually prefer the st69. But I mostly record amplifies instruments and synths so I haven't given either as much use as others probably have. I've gotten good results on acoustic guitar with the ST69 in omni near the neck joint, and I've recorded entire acoustic rehearsals with 4 or 5 people on a pair of ST69s 8n Blumlein with good results. Haven't had the nt-1 nearly as long and it's not really the same mic as the current version if I'm not mistaken, but my overall 8mpressuin is that it sounds faster and more detailed for close mixed sources but sometimes that actually means "harsh". I uaven't had anything sound harsh with the 69 yet but I have definitely had close mixed voices sound muddy. Love it as a room mic.
