I really liked the TT-251 on the female vox, but thought the TT-47 was better on the male vox.

You could hear the pleasant highs in her vox with the 251 bringing them out better than the other mics, but the 251 sounded too sibilant on the male's vocals bringing out the "S's" and the "C" on "face" at the end of the clip.

Glad the clips were useful for you! The attractive female singer on that page is actually my wife Mandee. She often gets asked to sing leads/harmonies for different clients that come in the studio, and she's also very handy for these sorts of shootouts. I'm sure she'll appreciate your compliments

Thor is here and in stock. Not only is it basically all three S-7 flavors in a single mic, but it's also a Tri-Polar Pattern, along with a 3-way pad, and 3 bass roll-off settings. That's four different 3-way switches!! Perhaps the most versatile condenser on the market. Truly a "Swiss-Army Mic" as Larry likes to say.

Just bought a tc 67 au. Used for a vocal session the other day, and liked it. Good weight without being too dark. Wish it had a touch more on top, but I can probly eq it in, as I have yet to mix the tune. And as an aside, I hate the shockmount! Really cheap feeling.

Which shock mount did you get with your TC-67? The newer TC shock mounts are virtually identical to the mounts that come with the Tele Elam 251e and some other very high-end mics.

The shockmount that came with my 67au is plenty beefy. Not cheap at all.

I really love this mic, but also sometimes wish for a little more top end. That said, it fits my voice so well.

Yeah guys, great mic. The mount itself is ok, its actually the screws that hold ot together that seem a little suspect. Kind of "plasticky". Geeze, I don't even think that's a word, but hopefully my point is made regardless. Haha.

how do these mics stack up against the oktava mods?

I was wondering if anyone was gonna mention the A51's. The only ADK mic I have ever owned is an A-51ST. Noisy brittle bugger. I don't use it for anything. Don't even have the nerve to sell it to anyone, so here it sits. Looks cool though. This is the mic that has stopped me from trying more. I'll have to hear one in use on a session before I buy another though. Not gonna take a chance from reviews.

What a shame Martin Kantola's Black Pearl looks a bit like an extra shiny, dressed up Sterling Audio SDC, and the ugly old Pultecs I have don't have any flashing lights nor alphaneumeric displays.

I was building a BVX with a six person choir this client brought in and I had set up a C-12 and a 414 as MS.

Someone in the choir saw this and I heard over the monitors... "This guy does not know what he is doing. Look at how the mics are set up, and they don't even match!"

We did three passes rearranging the singers each time.

When I played back the stem, they were blown away at how it sounded a lot like eighteen people singing in a BIG choir.

They were quite good, and I had a lot of fun!

I have a pair of Hamburgs, Vienna MK-8 s and just picked up an SL to play with.

I'll report back after I spend a little more time with these, but I did like the Hamburgs on a OO parlor strung with fresh phosphor bronze strings and recorded M+S

Not seeing much written here about the ADK Thor, from actual users (i.e. *after* it came out). But I'm planning to get one, as I need a fig-8 LDC for my small acoustic-oriented home studio. This will supplement my existing SDC (sE4) and LDC (sE X1) and will be my first multi-pattern condenser (the other two are cardioid only, although the sE4 can have additional omni or hypercardioid capsules added).

I plan to use it to record Ukulele where the artist is also singing, using the fig-8 pattern to reduce vocal spill. Also with the sE X1 as a mid/side pair.

Any thoughts on that usage, or comments from people who have owned/used the Thor, would be welcome.

So far though I have only used in in fig-8 mode, to pick up ukelele while reducing vocal spill.

I would like to compare it in cardioid mode with my sE X1, although the latter is fixed to a vocal shield currently.

I just ordered one. I can't wait to try it out. I own an A6 and use it for acoustic guitars. Sounds great!

Happy T-7 Thor owner here. Used it so far on flute (fig 8) on stage with full orchestra, ac gtr, mono drum overhead, outside kick, electric gtr amp. On the Fender Twin amp, I selected the high roll off, -8 db pad, 8-10" inches back slightly off axis. Sounded great. Next.

Thor really is a great sounding and very flexible mic for the price. Just what I needed. Had a great experience purchasing directly from Larry @ ADK.

Love me my Custom Shop Vienna 12au. Great on the right male or female vocalists. It can get a bit sibilant at times, but nothing that cannot be de-essed. Sounds great on the right acoustic guitar, too.

Reviving this old thread. Anyone used the new ADK TC custom valve range (12, 47, 49, 67 & 251)? Just wondering how they compare to others in the price range?

I know this is super old, but just to clarify that wasn't ADK's doing. Their old site was hacked with adware briefly years ago and it was fixed years ago.

I haven't found any tube condensers I prefer in their price range. My favorites of those being the TC-251 and TC-67. I had the TC versions awhile and then bumped up to their Z-Mods, Z-251 and Z-67. I've used them for about 90% of all client vocal sessions the last decade.

I guess I'm bumping this thread in the hopes of getting some information.

At one time I was a dealer of ADK mics but I never could figure out their designations (their naming system).

As mentioned, they seem to have produced so many different mics that it's nearly impossible to keep up. Going back several years I was reading a blurb about the A51 line of mics. I have owned an older original A51 (it's a budget mic that I didn't really care for) yet still own a a pair of A51TL mics (my go to mics for vocals and many acoustic instruments). In this blurb the author mentioned A51 type 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. Now I know of A51, A51TT, A51TC, A51TL..... maybe there's a few other derivations. What's with the numbering scheme and how does it correlate to the other names I mentioned?

I know the difference between the original A51 and my A51TL is night and day (not in any way the same mic). Why not call it something different. There's an insane number of German/Austrian city names being used for different mics. IMHO this is just poor marketing. I do tend to like ADK mics but their designations and product re-designs make choosing a mic confusing. Just making an observation.

Does anyone still make ADK mics or they all called Zigma now? I just don't like to see a great product NOT sell due to this poor marketing. I'm mostly retired now but am still a closet micaholic (for my micaholic closet (pun intended ). It's been a while since I checked in here. I'll try and do it more often.
