There's been a similar price hike in UK. Originally when it was released it was over 600 Englizi quids. Mine was about 250. Big price rise.

Thinking of buying in the US as much cheaper than in the UK - does the supplied PSU come with multiple plug fittings and multi-voltage like lots of equipment these days or is it a single plug/single voltage for the region where it was purchased?

Mine came with only one and it was the wrong one. A two pronger instead of the required Brit three pronger. TC sent me out the right one immediately. So, unless they've changed things, you get just the one.

Good to know, did you buy in the UK? My concern is buying it in the US they will know I did so and will charge for the 3 pin UK plug. Did they ask for any info on where you bought it from?

I got mine in UK. So maybe ask the US supplier to purloin a three pronger, if they can, or ask them to tell TC to sent you one from the EC. Or email TC and explain the situation and see what they'll do about it, they might just send you one. TC hardware support is pretty good and response is rapid.

The two prongers do fit into a plug adapter but it's not ideal.

Cheers for that. I'm guessing the US adapter would also be expecting 120V at 60Hz too so I'd need a step-down transformer which I don't really fancy.

Got one on demo here in Ireland. €275 if I buy it.
The DAC is an improvement on my HD192.
Headphone output is pretty much useless.

The headphone amp sounds pretty good through my DT-770s.
I purchased the unit originally for the purpose of monitoring through the S/PDIF of my interface freeing up two analog outs for OTB summing. I was hoping it would sound good, but I was really surprised as to the extent of the sonic improvement. I hadn't really heard my monitors until I hooked them up to the BMC-2.
I got mine brand new from ebay for $220. I noticed a couple of months later they went up to $499. I think it's still worth it.
I'll have to get another one at some point for the living room system.

Changed my mind. I normally listen on HD600 and DACs Headlite Mark 2.
The TC headphone output is of course not up to the DACS. However it is better than ones I have heard on other Monitor Controllers and DACs around the 1K.
The DAC is still outclassing the HD192. I would love to hear it A/B Benchmark or Lavry.
In any case this is a truly remarkable piece of equipment.
The accurate level control, simple user interface, fades between switching and all of that, shows how these things should be done.

Does the BMC-2 still hold up in 2014 at $500? Are there better alternatives now? It seems that there's still not much info on the unit really, especially in consideration of current gear/prices/expectations.

Has anybody compared it with the DacMagic Plus? or slightly pricier units such as the Audient id22/UA Apollo/Mytek 96?

The BMC-2 has the exact feature set I require and I rather like the layout, but I fear I'll regret not getting something newer for better conversion/output stage.

Are any of you guys still using your units? Have you ever had any issues with them?

Some european dealers have it on a ridiculous low price if you get them along with Dynaudio speakers and that's how I got mine. heh

I ended up buying the iD22 instead of the BMC-2. The BMC-2 doesn't even remotely seem worth the $550 price tag in comparison to the iD22 ($699). There's definitely better monitor controller/DAC combos on the market than the BMC-2. Even without any of the extra features, I still preferred the iD22 over the BMC-2, only as a bonus it comes with some excellent ADC and two surprisingly half decent internal pres.

I bought one online for £0. It came free with my monitors, best bargain ever! Works really well, I find the mono/side section particularly useful & it doesn't sound bad either!

Please, critical question to BMC-2 users.
Per default, the ALT function is assigned to the
SPDIF/AES3 out, but by manual with holding Alt button, You can assign digital out also on non-alt output configuration.
I did it by accident and now dig out monitors sounds on both setup ( alt and main)
How i can pull back this? Manual just say how You can assign digital output to ALT , but no any words how do that back :(
Maybe someone know or maybe any hidden factory reset combination is known?

I've been using the BMC-2 since this past summer, and it might be my best purchase in several years. Highly recommended. I'm thinking about buying a second one as a backup, since they don't make them anymore.

I typically just rely on a mixer for monitoring - usually a cheap Mackie - and I've always known that's not the ideal solution. But I didn't expect to hear such big a difference when hooking up the BMC-2 to the same monitors. It's probably because it maintains better level balance and phase relationships. This is how my monitors were meant to sound, and made me realize how bad the Control Room output on my mixer was.

I've been using mine since 2010, or thereabouts. On 24/7, night and day. Well, mostly night. I got a second new one stashed away. Just in case. One never knows, do one?

Funny, we also have multiple BMC's because it is one of the only spdif quality controllers at a reasonable price.
