Just downloaded the new Fireware and software. The sound quality seems improved. May be wishful thinking.
Since I use Lion and have not used it to Calibrate. I did not see if the new firmware has anything that may impact playback quality.

Hello all new to the site hope all is well.
I have the KRK Ergo system and i currently have a pair of vxt4 connected to it and it works brilliantly !!!! now i want to connect the KRK10 s sub and i am having issues :( i am unable to select both A and B/sub buttons as i am using a mac and do not have access to the control panel that the booklet speaks about ! can some one please help!!

You have to go to control panel and select using a sub to allow using the monitor/sub function. Having a Mac has no effect on having a control panel.
Once you select 2.1 in the Control Panel, then select the crossover frequency, the A 7 B lights will be on together.

I gave only used a Mac with mine. There is a control panel that is part of the Ergo program.

Saving room calibration is VERY long.
Windows 7 32/64 - about 15 minutes!!!

Thanks - I gave up the other day...seemed longer than 15 mins...lol.

I did a recalibration on my room (having moved furniture about) and was still impressed with the results. I like that it's unobtrusive and has a great volume dial; also getting a good transition between my monitors and headphones.

When using the 2.1 mode with the Ergo (using the "B" button for a sub), do the main monitors get full range audio when the "B/Sub" button is not engaged, and then the crossover begins to work when the "B" button is pressed?

Also, it would be nice to see a firmware update that works with Windows 7 x64. Hopefully that is being developed since many people use the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

I figure that he is talking about Ergo's Control Panel.

If you look at the options that are available to select under the Ergo folder you will find "Ergo Cal" and "Ergo Control Panel". I do not have a Mac but in Windows I would click on "All Programs -> KRK Ergo". I would then be able to click on the Cal or Control Panel options.

Anyone compare it with Arc 2?

Can the ERGO work well when attempting to mix using headphones? The website says that the headphone outputs "mirror" the monitor outputs, but does it apply anything to fix the spatial issues when using headphones?

The reason I ask is because I am looking into an effective room treatment for my small NYC apartment, in which I primarily mix with my monitors (KRK rokit 5), but occasionally at night must switch to mixing on headphones in order to not disturb neighbors. Because of this I have also looked into the VRM box by focusrite, but I know that this is somewhat different than the ERGO, from my understanding it "models" different monitors and rooms to check your mix rather than fix room acoustic problems.

If the ERGO fixes my rooms' problems AND allows me to mix comfortably on headphones without worrying about hurting the mix, it would seem like a no brainer.

Also, from reading the manual it seems that I can use the ERGO to sit in between my monitor chain from my existing interface. My apogee duet (firewire, 1st version) doesn't have SPDIF so from what I understand, I should be able to connect the outputs of my duet to the ERGO, and the ERGO to my monitors, correct?

You do NOT want to hook it up like that. You're subjecting your audio to 2 additional unnecessary consumer quality DA/AD conversion steps if you do that.

There is of course no processing applied to the headphone output. Headphones go directly on your ears and as such are unaffected by your room's acoustic problems.

Ditch your Duet and just use the Ergo. You'd also do well to ditch those Rokkits in favor of some VXT6 or at least VXT4.

I have some questions I can't find an answer to regarding ERGO.

1. When I adjust the crossover frequency in the Ergo Control Panel, do I have to reshoot my room?

2. I can't set an arbitrary crossover frequency. When I set it to let's say 80Hz, it will be back at 58Hz the next time I open up the panel. When I set it to 200Hz, it will be at 120Hz the next time I open the panel. What's up?

3. I'm using 2.1 mode. In the past (< firmware 1.23?), when I switched off channel B (sub), channel A speakers would have full-range. Now, when I switch off channel B, all audio is off (firmware 1.23). Is this normal? Would be better when only the sub were killed then, so I could hear what the sub was adding. I now use an extra footpedal switch to kill the sub.

The updated for the installer was fine indeed it is now 1.51 BUT when I try to update the Firmware I open the KRK ERGO UPDATER and it shows
Firmware Updated Version 1.32.24 ---- SCAN --- QUIT

When I try to Scan I get: Did not find any network nodes. Check connections/pwer and retry

NOTE:
- Firewire Green Light is on on the ERGO
- I tried to reboot the MAC and unplugged other stuff (unplugged Firewire and USB devices) so the only thing connected is the ERGO Firewire, USB Keyboard and Display Monitors of course

I also tried to install and less recent Firmware, the 1.23 which is the one available on the ERGO Download List that is newer than my current 1.14... trying to update firmwre in steps... but no matter which Firmware Version I try they all say 'DID NOT FIND ANY NETWORK NODES

Hooo now I remember! I had the same problem a few years ago when trying to update the firmware. In the end I think I managed to install the new firmware but connecting the ERGO to a MacBookPro (friend computer) and updating the firmware from there. Then plugged the ERGO back into my Mac Pro and it was fine.

I don't have any other problem with my Mac and its ports so I guess it is the ERGO software/updater that is failing to SCAN firewire properly.

PROBLEM!!! I don't have access to a MacBook Pro or any other Apple machine... ouch!

I just installed an ergo yesterday in my room. Zero Problems with calibration and general setup. I use it standalone with Analog Ins and Outs and found the converters to be solid quality. However what it did to the monitoring situation in my room is astounding. My room is fairly well treated (about 15 Broadband Traps, Cloud in the listening position, diffusion behind the listening position etc.) and from measurements with Room EQ Wizard it seemed ok - not perfect, but ok. My problem always was in this room that I needed to set it up asymmetrical with the speakers firing into the short end of the room. Enter Ergo - wow. I have KRK V8s and NS10. I got a room correction score of 12 and 15 for the speakers and honestly I am blown away how tight and clear it all sounds now. I had problems in the low mids and had some difficulties with mixing bass/kik relation - nothing too drastic but it was there. Completely gone with the Ergo. Stereo Imaging is crystal clear now, the bass/kik sit perfectly in the middle and can be easily discerned. Absolutely no smear at all in the low mids. Pretty impressed I must say. I have a little of the zipper noise when using the volume know, but it doesn't put me off to be honest. The only downside is a little bit the resolution of the volume knob. It doesn't do much in my setup until I am half way on the volume knob.
But thus far - I am loving the Ergo. It really put my monitors to new life. Especially the NS10 sound so clear now it's not even funny...

But depending on your setup, you may want to try the SPDIF input as I found it to sound substantially better than the analog in on my rig (being fed from an Apogee Ensemble) - skip the extra conversion if you can

I am mixing hybrid with an analog desk so spdif in is not an option...but the converters are solid.

In that case, I agree - I think for your situation this is a solid converter using the analog ins (it just was worse for my rig - I tried it out the analog ins when I first got my ERGO due to having some sync issues with the Ensemble, which I later resolved).

I actually prefer the sound of my monitoring setup using the ERGO as a DAC in place of the Ensemble - The ERGO is very neutral.

Giving this a bump...

I'm having the exact same problem. I actually have two Ergo units (one purchased a few years ago and one purchased last week) and they both do the same thing. There's no subwoofer crossover setting that will stick between 58 Hz and 120 Hz. WTF??? And its DEFINITELY NOT a visual bug thing. When I set the crossover to 120 Hz, then quit the app and run a 120 Hz sinewave through it, it's fine. When I relaunch the app, it still says 120 Hz. If I then set it to 119 Hz, then quit the app and run the 120 Hz tone through it, it's WAY lower in volume and when you relaunch the app it says 58 Hz. This is totally lame and makes it unusable as a crossover in my system, which is ridiculous because I'm using it with two KRK VXT6s and their 12s subwoofer--which has a crossover at 80 Hz. 58 is too low and 120 is way too high. Anyone else have similar experiences/solutions?

Sweetwater just stopped selling new Ergo units and Front End Audio says it's discontinued.

Anyone know if these are signs that an Ergo 2 is coming soon?

I hope they keep developing it and don't just get out of the roomeq market - I find it really useful to get the best out of my monitors, and I like the sound of its electronics and correction algorithm as well.

I might well upgrade to a V2 if the features were a step forward

I've purchased an Ergo a week ago to use it in 2.1 configuration with active Genelec monitors connected to channel A and a sub connected to B. In my system Ergo is replacing a Behringer DSP1024P which has zero gain, so I'm using Ergo's volume control set to max. While configuring the system I came across the following problem. In A/B mode set from the Control Panel app both A and B channels work fine; however in 2.1 mode Ergo is adding a substantial pink noise similar to what you get from a noisy opamp. Switching the B channel off by a B/Sub button on the device removes the noise completely, so to me it looks like the noise is added by a DSP chip while doing the additional crossover processing for 2.1 mode. The noise is independent from the input setting (analog or digital), which proves that it's generated in the processor and not in the input buffers or an ADC. I've tried KRK tech support a week ago with zero results- they didn't even answer, so I would highly appreciate if some of you guys who are using Ergo in 2.1 mode could do a quick check- with Ergo's volume set to max (or at least more than 3 o'clock) does B channel switching on/off by a B/Sub button on the device make any changes in the noise level?

I just got confirmation from a sweetwater rep that KRK has stopped producing the Ergo. Still no word on a V2!

I never have to go past 1 o'clock. And that is plenty loud. There is a lot of noise after 2 o'clock. I will switch off the sub to see if this makes any difference.
If you go to Control Panel and select 2 channel instead 2.1 does this quieter down the unit also? Turning off the B output with the software still set to 2.1 may doing something that lowers noise levels.

Surprised they last so long. CEntrance was the designer and builder. They used to advertise Ergo as a product they turn keyed.
The costs involved and volume did not make this viable. Glad they got the software sorted before it died.
The website has been updated, removed the March date for the latest firmware and software.
I am sure if there is another it will be USB instead of FireWire. And may be either digital or digital and analog output. The lack of digital outputs limited the market for it. Most wanted a room correction ahead of an interface.
As a monitor controller the unit is fine. Best 300 - 400 spent on this. Sub crossover, preamp, and room correction in one box.

Actually 2-channel mode is the one that I'm using now, having connected the Genelecs and the sub to output A in parallel. In this mode Ergo is practically not addind any noise even with the volume knob at max.

As for switching off the B output in 2.1 mode- I haven't checked the frequency response of A output with B switched off. If high-pass filtering at A output is switched off as well then it's quite obvious that noise is added by a crossover processing. Anyway I'm fine with 2-channel mode. And thanks for the info- now I'm confident that the extra noise in 2.1 is a feature and not a bug- well, it's a bug but a common one for all the Ergos.
