Not at all.
I treated it super gentle, always kept it in a case and after about a year or so of normal use the control knob started occasionally getting wonky where it would sometimes overshoot what you were going for making it difficult to select things. This got steadily worse and then eventually the unit started powering off but moving input cables would sometimes bring it back and then finally not at all.
Pretty cool device for the money if it didn't just die for no reason.
Super handy that it ran on batteries if needed, could record eight tracks at once, and sounded quite decent. Recorded the audio for my wedding on it as well as a few live house concerts where my wife and I brought some musicians, did the live and recorded sound and video. Also recorded the two of us playing, her on drums and vocals and me on guitar bass and vocals.
When the R16 crapped out I replaced it with an Alesis HD24 that I scored on Craigslist for $100.00 !!! Apparently a divorce/breakup sale and the woman just wanted the thing gone. At that price I really expected it to be a digital tape ADAT (eight tracks) but when I got there it was indeed as listed in the ad a fully functional HD24 24 track hard disk recorder that worked perfectly with the original box, manual and extra hard drives and caddies.
