Yeah, the KT76 and KT2A sound great. They do the job of compression most excellently. I suspect that people who don't like the sound of these units have not used the LA2A and/or UA1176LN much, or even at all. I've had LA2As and 1176s since the 1980's, and used them extensively, and these KT units strongly suggest that the circuitry is not some unobtainium magical mystery stuff. Very special, way back when they were new, but the circuitry child's play today. Check out the Cheap vs Expensive thread. Lots of sound clips, songs, examples, opinions, etc... regarding these units, and a lot of other inexpensive gear.
What specifically rubbed you wrong about the Behringer 73? I've never used one. Reviews, for what they are worth, mostly claim that there are no undesirable distinguishing audible factors. Audio of the B73 and Neve units spliced together into a single take were very difficult to distinguish, one from the other.
