With that said, as soon as I figure out the problem areas on my cheap bookshelfs, then yes - I can also hear these same errors on the mains as well, but not straight away.
That's why I'd like to know if there are any mid level (5-10.000β¬) monitors that start sounding brash as soon as you go "off axis" mix-wise.
Mains: PSI A17
Bookshelfs: Elac Debut 2.0
Hahaha I have to laugh. I was going to guess PSI !
I used to have PSI A21m's for a year. All the info is there, but as you say, they don't point you towards issues. Or as I think of it, they don't tell you what to do. Just put it all on the table without opinion. Very swiss.
Sounds to me you want speakers that do tell you what to do. What they are is fir yiu to find out, but I found that with Amphions.
In fact, my one15's schooled me into a whole new way of thinking about monitors. A good monitor to do music work and mixing in needs only to do 3 things:
1. Tell you what to do.
2. Make it easy to DO what thry tell you to do.
3. Drop you off in reality when they say you're done, i.e. translate well.
That's it. If they do that, all the other parameters are good enough and at that point irrelevant.
Which speakers do this is partly personal so you have to find them by trial and error. But those are the points of focus. Seems like for me, for you PSI are not them. Whilst other people do great on them. Same with Genelec for me. Don't tell me what to do or whether I'm done. Do tell other people who love them though, just like PSI.
Go find your speakers. I'd try Amphion or ATC with your budget.
