Tascam Porta-studio: Refresher

Hi,

Am set to tinker with a tape-Tascam Portable Studio (again), the 424 MkII.

Believe it tapes at double the normal tape speed?

What are the best tapes for this machine please, CrO2's - ?

Thanks. So, if I record 15 minutes on the 424 MKII that should equate to 30 minutes of tape on a standard speed cassette tape recorder, please? The speeded up tape is giving you twice as much quality space, as the signal recorded at standard speed?

The tape runs twice as fast and you only get to record on one side of the cassette, so a C60 will give you 15mins run time.

I see that Type II NOS cassettes are averaging $18ea these days. That'll get expensive quickly.

15 mins ~ because each side of a C60 is 30 minutes. That makes sense, thanks.

Found a cache of unused CrO2 Type IIs in an old tool box, so I'm good to go
