Do you think i can learn to mix with my Hd600 and small logitechs in my untreated room. Or would it still help to have monitors like dyna audio or genelec?
Or unnecessary in that space for now?
If yes, 7 inch or 5 inch? for acoustic rock folk music.
You can certainly learn to mix on headphones. Bigger speakers might be nice to have to give you a second input to your mixing decisions. I have two pairs of headphones - one open and one closed. The closed ones (DT770 Pro) give more bass which makes it easer for me not to add too much of it. With the open-back ones (AKG K-701), I tend to overcompensate the bass, and it end up being too much.
I find it helpful exporting the audio and bringing it into the car. Comparing radio music with my mix and listen to my music with something familiar.
Also, listen to other song which you really like and try to match the frequency contents (balance) to your songs.
Dynaudio, Genelec, Neumann, HEDD, EVE Audio, etc. will all do a formidable job sending out sound waves accurately. Ultimately, what you will hear the most is your room, not the speakers. Probably does not matter too much what you choose. Untreated rooms all suffer from big peaks and nulls at low frequencies. At one spot you hear certain bass frequencies very loud and in some spots there is almost no bass at all. Maybe you can find a spot where it sound OK? I would go for the bigger speakers (since you already have tiny ones) and build some bass traps DIY-style. There is an acoustics subform on GS, where you can find info on how to construct them yourself for very little money.
