Hi, i've owned a Vestax PCM-06 DJ Mixer for a while now, but only recently have i noticed that the power adapter gets pretty hot even when the mixer is switched off (On at the wall, but off on the actual unit).

I'm not sure if this has always been like that since i first bought the unit as i only noticed recently how hot it gets.

Is this a problem and worse a fire hazard?

If it's a problem then are these power adapters inter-changable as long as i get another power adapter with the right volts and amps?

I'd unplug it if unattended.


Most power adapters are quite primitive primary switched DC output power supplies (galvanically separated extra low-voltage output).

Following data has to be checked (I take no responsability in case of problem):

1) Mains voltage and frequency (must match)
Example: 230 V 50 Hz
Example: 90-250 V 50-60 Hz

2) Output voltage and voltage type (most common is DC but check it carefully)
AC (or VAC) or DC (or VDC)
Example: 16 V DC, 16 VDC

Output voltage must correspond, including type (AC or DC).


3) Output power and/or current
Indicated in VA (apparent power but don't care about this detail here) or W (watt) or if not indicated, output current in A or mA.
Example: 15 W
Example: 500 mW
Output power (or current) must not be smaller than the original adapter but it should not be massively higher either.


4) Connector type and polarity of connector (very important)
Represented are the external and internal contacst of a concentric contacts connector:

Make sure that the polarity corresponds, double check it.
Both polarities are used, while external - is more common.
There are also various sizes and other connector types.


Usually voltage tolerances should not be too problematic. Older transformer-based adapters which are much more "massive" could have relatively high no-load output voltages but they've become rare for new devices.

There are also universal adapters with sets of connectors (often with the possibility to swap + and -) and some have a switch to set the output voltage (do not change the output voltage while plugged).

I will share what I think is some valuable information regarding these specific power supply module units for the Vestax PMC-06 Pro models. That being that these units are extremely sensitive to power as it relates to the amount of Volts of the P/S unit & the MAh. That being said I wouldn't use anything else than an original P/S unit that came w/ your PMC-06 model or re-purchased OEM replacement off like eBay or some other internet website. Don't risk using a spare P/S you have laying around the house as a substitute for any length of time. PERIOD! So if yours is acting up that way of getting severly over-heated I'd spend the $15 on a new one. Better safe than burning out a nice Vestax Mixer. & in my opinion these babies are climbing in value as time progresses.
