Like it's more comical than scary now. I think the last thing I was really probably kind of scared of was It really and that's it. Everything else is like more shocking than scary like ohh he chopped that dude head off or ohh that girl flew in the air and took the girl with her. It's like there's no oomph anymore. I saw Immaculate, Long legs, attempted to watch Alien Romulus. They're more like action movies to me now in a sense with less action. Immaculate and the other nun movie were literally the same movie which is crazy because they came out at the same time and they just was kinda boring and not really scary fr and Sydney Sweeney is lowkey a bad actress to me. I don't get the hype. Lovely girl probably.

I like found footage, one of my favorites is this movie I can't remember where it was werewolves killing them but it was found footage. There was on a base or something. And I also liked Chernobyl Diaries. That movie was good.

I like those. I'm not gonna lie but even those, like it just doesn't have that spark you know? Like we know Nightmare on Elm Street is just it. Like it's a classic. It's it. I feel like the new generation movies don't have that anymore. They don't have a staple. But with that said the movies I like from your list which I really like is Annihilation (but it's more like scifi to me), The Witch (classic, I think it's a staple to be honest) and I think that's it. I like Talk To Me, it was cool. I kinda liked the new Tarot movie that came out. I think that's a staple. They should make Tarot 2. But idk, like you said everyone has their own opinion but I feel like it's all aesthetic now which is good but you gotta have aesthetic and wow factor too. Nothing is really wowing me anymore.

most movies have no sense of humour anymore, if you watch some 90s horror there is some good dark humour in them, whilst it's not technically horror watch dune 2 and you'll see what I mean, absolutely no humour throughout any of it and at times unbelievably violent, I thought it was terrible.

Like Evil Dead in a way. That might be a part of it too. It's so deadpan. But I do like deadpan and no humor type horror movies too, they just gotta have that spark to it.

Thanksgiving was alright. I'm not even mad at it. I don't know I feel like they just need like a blockbuster horror movie that's just undeniable. Like they don't have that no more.

The issue for me with horror movies is that they are not scary. Sure, they can startle me with a loud soundtrack moment that suddenly explodes when something happens on the screen but that's different. Maybe if I believed in ghosts or super natural stuff I would be more likely to be scared but other than seeing Nosferatu at the age of 4 or 5, I do not recall being scared by any horror flick.

it's the same thing with comedy, most of it isn't funny and it's not because I'm getting older, I've watched loads of older comedy from the pre woke age and it's much better quality, I watched loads of actually scary horror films and know what you mean, personally I love dark humour, not too keen on over serious horror, basketcase 3 and doctor giggles is my kind o film, it never gets boring or old.

I've had real paranormal experiences this shit definitely not scary like how it was and it's definitely not because you're getting older. The quality is getting worse. I think it's a reflection of society and what they need to show to keep people sane and at bay. Back then, society was happier than it is now so I think people were able to actually create some good stuff because it was just purer back then. Everything is too like Barbie World'ish, too mainstream now and in a way that's scary in itself.

It's my favorite genre so I always look out for it but yeah I don't really check it out too deep like the new Alien: Romulus movie I still haven't gotten past 10minutes of it because i have a feelin it's gonna be trash like.. I know it's not better than Prometheus or the Alien Vs Predator movies so I just know it's not gonna be good. Like these movies just be disappointing me now. All the nun movies and exorcist movies isn't even scary anymore. I think the only movie that kinda scared me was Tarot.. That movie was kinda wild. It was like Final Destination ur with tarot cards and the tarot cards they drew would come to life and attack them like the devil card and the real devil showed me and it looked real it looked scary for real. I ain't gonna lie

I’ve seen Romulus, I didn’t rate it , it was too similar to the other alien films and the prequels, like a mash up .
And I thought it ruined aliens , as the company now know a lot more about the alien than they were letting on , and they sent a bunch of underprepared marines to sort it out.


They live , is pretty good ,great story .
I didn’t see that back when it came out , my friend put me onto it about 10 years ago , not the best cast , Keith David is pretty good , roddy piper being he’s a wrestler did ok , the fight scene in the alley was funny , full on WrestleMania , not like today’s overly choreographed stuff , where everyone has a black belt.
Theres a bar fight in a film called mean streets (Scorsese) which is gotta be the worse fight scene in film , really it’s just a lot of pushing and grabbing , but they’re all meant to tough guys.

I guess it depends on what you expect from your horror.

For me, Smile was a total sleeper. I expected it to be generic horror garbage, but it had a .. rather unsettling theme, supported by equally unsettling visuals, ... and that ending. Wheew.

It Follows was another I'm glad I stumbled upon.

Smile was ok. It Follows was better. But I feel like there's no blockbuster anymore.

Everything is lacking nowadays beyond and in addition to entertainment.

If i want horror, i watch the news. Either the gaps in the information are so horribly obvious you have to wonder how anyone thinks people will belive this or it's the same type of stupidity in "leaders" trying to react to what is actually happening, not taking into account the possible outcome.

the last good horror film I saw was in 1970.
It was a cold, dark night at the drive in movie and Count Yorga, Vampire was playing.

I've found a treasure trove of good horror films that I haven't seen before on Netflix. As with any film genre, there's some good ones among total flops.

That was a damned good movie. Haven't seen it in years though.

Another one I saw many years ago that scared the crap out of me was Mr. Sardonicus.

You just haven't found good movies- it's that simple.

3 movies that redefine horror:

'Terrifier 1, 2 and 3' - (each one better than the previous movie with Terrifier 3 scoring a 7.1 on IMDB) & another excellent one is called 'STREAM'

They have it all, including some of the best opening and ending credit music, foley and sound efx you'll ever hear. The Terrifier franchise introduces a character that makes Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Jason VoorHees look like choir boys.

Director Damien Leone said that several big studios showed interest in financing this movie based on the unexpected success of Terrifier 2 (2022), even without a full script, but he turned them all down because he is certain that they would never let him film the opening scene alone, which he describes as "very controversial". Leone commented that the only reason that he can be so uncompromising in his depiction of horror and gore is because he finances his movies independently, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down, and has no big studio breathing down his neck to make the movie more mainstream.

I stopped watching "horror" movies when they started being more like snuff films without anything that made me care about any of the characters.

The biggest hit to horror movies has really been the phone. The best way to watch a horror film is in a theater with a crowd of freaked out people and NO PHONES. (the same goes for comedy, but with laughing people) If you're home, turn off the phone and put it away. The second you look away from the screen, the spell is broken and it loses effectiveness.

People are acknowledging good horror films that are still being made. The idea that horror was once better is just the survivorship bias, because there are probably more terrible horror movies in the 80s than in all of the decades since, you're just thinking of the few really good ones that scared you as a kid. And if the bad ones also scared you as a kid then...

The very small percentage of older horror films that are still scary to me as an adult are almost non-existent. Nightmare on Elm Street scared the bejesus outta me as a kid, as did the Hellraiser films, but now... meh. They're still good, but I've sort of "seen it all" now, so it's getting tougher to thrill me. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that in 20 years the teens of today will be looking back at the 2020's as the golden years of horror cinema. It's just what we do with all pop culture, and your parents all did it too before you with their lame-ass movies and music.

Different strokes for different folks. To me, we're living in a horror renaissance, and I love it. Like, I don't want a movie with a bunch of stupid jump scares and gore; give me something that's conceptually scary. That's where today's horror movies win. They don't splatter as much blood on the screen; they make you go "holy sh*t, what if this really happened!?"

Terrifier to me is like the movie that's the opposite of the modern horror experience. I'm rewatching them to try to see what the big deal is since the critics seem to love them. I've made it through All Hallow's Eve and the first Terrifier, and there's just no discernible plot. Who is Art? Why is he killing? What's his motive? What are his victims' last names? Where do they come from? What's the paranormal thing that brought Art back from a bullet to the head? There's literally no plot, just storyless killing. It's edgy filmmaking for the sake of being edgy. I've seen more compelling snuff films than this. Terrifier has no point. It's not scary, it's just gross. Movies like Hereditary and The VVitch, though? That's what I came to horror movies for. I want horrifying concepts that will stick with me after the credits roll, not forgettable gore and slimy creatures with no backstories.

thinner (1996) is a really good creepy horror I love, that's one of the best horrors I have ever seen, some amazing comedy in it too, love the old guy in it who curses people and has a daughter in her 70s lol
