Theremin - An Electronic Odyssey
This documentary details the life of Russian inventor Leon Theremin, who obviously invented the Theremin, but also a helluva lot more - most notably, โmotion sensingโ in a general sense (every time a door automatically opens for you, thank Leon).
His life was insane. Too much to detail here but it involves being abducted in a New York subway (where he had emigrated to) by KGB agents, and forced to work in a Siberian camp, creating devices such as โthe bugโ and other surveillance equipment.
His friends in New York, particularly his protege Clara Rockmore - the greatest player of the Theremin, had no idea where heโd vanished to and lost all hope for him. The documentary maker finds Leon in Russia, living in obscurity and poverty, and brings him back to New York to be reunited with Clara Rockmore. I wonโt say more.
