Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, Warzone 2.0.... all great fun! The most time I've spent with a game the past year or so has been Battlefield 2042, it's evolved hugely since its inception. Lots of people harp on all the negatives on all these games, but believe me, they are all light years ahead of what we created over the past 20 years! I'm sure Fortnite is at the same level now, just don't have the time to add it to the list.
Guess I'm what you'd call a "casual" player on these; I don't really care about k/d ratio, win/lose, boosting my characters, etc. All the skins art is quite beautiful, btw. I play for the sheer virtual world thrill of it.
The secret to success in BR is really to avoid being found by other players. Sure, there are some who seem to be able to kill everything in sight instantaneously (probably either bots or cheaters, actually, with unrealistically "boosted" characters given the time they've played), but that's just fluff in my book. Best team I was on recently in Apex Legends got to the end mainly by manipulating the relationship to the closing "death circle" which is common in these things (not there in OW2). You find the right balance of loot collecting, cover, and proximity to the perimeter of the circle so you don't get wiped by it, then move in as precisely as you can with each shrink. One useful tip is to mark the center of the circle with a waypoint, so you can handle your distance from it as efficiently as possible. Guaranteed to get you into the last rounds, though you won't have a statistic to brag about on the internet as a result (who really cares? Pro gamers doing it for money, like YT influencers, perhaps).
Anyways, all good fun!

And thanks to all the hard-working devs everywhere pushing this stuff to really fantastic levels of detail and quality now. I've seen the hardware evolve from 386 Pentiums, and wow, what a difference a PS5 or Xbox X makes! Not into VR yet, it's motion sickness city for me, and the games just aren't there (though I do sometimes relish the idea of Digital Combat Simulator in VR). Some day, maybe. I've always been skeptical about the intrinsic tech, though -- there are fundamental constraints to human physiology which just prevent VR from ever being truly satisfying, Zuckerberg is only just now realizing that, after being conned early into obsession with the "Oculus Rift" tech. What a waste of literally billions of dollars! Oh, well; everyone needs a hobby.
