Very few comparison and opinions yet, but ive seen a owner of geithain 922 compared with the kii three, he seemed impressed, but his friend did found the highs and higher mid not perfectly natural.

Compared to Geithain ME 800K in the same room I liked more Grimm LS1 and Kii. Geithains were big speaker sound where everything sounded amazing- opposite-I have heard all the mistakes on the Grimm and Kii and was big pleasure to listening them. The active cardiodid bass is simple amazing - no speaker I know has it (geithains have passive cardiodid bass). Kii are the most analytic and yet very pleasant speakers I have ever heard. (BTW I own yet Geithains RL906) Amphions are ok, but Kii is different league. The active focusing technology gives you feel like the instruments are wide in the air for example 50cm or 8 cm or meter, not only going from left and right. The details are unbelievable. I have heard mistakes in mix I haven't heard nor from ME800k nor from KH nor from HD 800 but I have seen them on analyzer and after repairing the wrong frequencies it helped a mix so much. ( it was conflict of freq of one bass synth and kick).
I'm very conservative about new products and what I like at least is changing my listening chain.But I simply had to buy it.It will save me too much hours of my life for other things.
Yes they are 10k with VAT. Nothing horrible for hi-end speakers with 1500+1500 watts of Ncore amplification and Grimm DA.Honestly for me it is quite aggressive price politics.

€10k for the Kii THREE is cheaper than an Amphion One 18 plus One 25 bass system, amplifiers and wires (€10,860 plus the cost of wire for the subs) and about the same price as the Genelec 8351.

The Kii THREE is 3dB down at 19Hz, so would have almost an octave's advantage over the Genelec which is 6dB down at 32Hz.

The three systems would make an interesting shootout.

Exactly -and I'm not talking about that none of these has such a kind of the HiEnd DA built inside.

When a/b comparing kii three with rl944k1 / basis 11k the geithain solution seemed truer to source, especially in the midband.

So has anyone compared the 8351 and amphion two18s? Also, the 8351s can be had new for like 6000€.

I see so many great reviews here for Amphion, they are all two-ways and passive, is there any disadvantage of 2-way design while comparing to 3-way monitors such as 8351, SM9, S3XH, or KH310?

There's trade offs in just about ALL aspects of speaker design.

2-way to 3-way is no different.

A good 2-way can outperform a 3-way and vice versa.

I have now the One18 and the 8351´s, wednesday i´ll have the JBL708 also!!

I made a mix on the One18 without even hearing one note of reference music and it got approval with very little changes in snare and minor percussion. Tomorrow will mix on the 8351 which i already listened to, a little bit yesterday and a little more today (put some of my old mixes).

Very interesting comparison, I'm following your responds. Beside your final thoughts after the comparison, it would be great if you could upload your mixes on a link with each pair of speakers to check them also how they sound in our systems.

Although jumping from one pair of speakers to another might be difficult to adapt and because indeed people tend to have a personal preference to some speakers, your mixes would be very helpful to us as we'll hear which speakers made you take the best decisions.

Maybe you could share only a small portion of the same mix, e.g. 45 seconds, but even if you can't, no problem, just let us know which speaker worked better for you.

I never really got the logic of showing monitor comparison mixes.

It only really shows how well the translation happened with the engineers own tastes, in his own room and skills.

All of those are so variable.

Even if you could note a constant, like 'it only took me 1/2 the time to nail the mix on monitor y vs monitor x', that's still a subjective issue, as another engineer might take longer on monitor y.

I agree. It would be like recording the output of an audio file with a mic through several different monitors. It may point out some differences, but whether it's useful is a different matter.

This is interesting. I'm really curious how the 8351 with GLM compare to the one18's! I love my 8351's with GLM 2.0. Still I would like to hear from somebody else how they crush the competition of course

Not Just yet, yesterday i had family issues and could not complete the mix. And still I want to check out the two 15 and the JBL´s . And i´m not even going to the price of the one 18 plus amp, to the price of the 8351, cause at the end i´ll get the best tool for me, even if i have to sell a kidney

I had a listening to the 8351 today, they really are stunning monitors. Haven't heard Amphions but I have absolutely no doubt that you could work on the Gens and get stunning mixes. Very detailed, very fast and full range - well, sufficiently to not need a sub imo. We will probably buy a pair at my day job (classical music recording).
The SAM dsp correction is also very convincing and really helps get that extra quality in the listening environment.

Well, i have both Amphion One18 and Genelec 8351 mixes approved. When switching from One18 to the Gens it felt weird, as if the Gens sounded artificial, but i think our ears (mine and my assistant) adapted and what remained with the Gens was a feeling of confidence, fast and clear transients, full range-ness, detail, good stereo image, etc. Dealer is asking for the One 18 back and before that happens we took the Gens down and set the One 18 to check the feeling of going back to them after the Gens. Wow, it sure felt wierd too.. listening to both, the Amphion and Gen mixes , both sounded good in the Gens, but the Gen mix in the Amphion sounds a little boomy, the bass drum and bass are a little blurred in the chorus. I should have just a tad more snare (something like 0.3 dB) and in general it feels a little dark. (poor mastering engineer ) but both work, and both where bravely (or stupidly) done without checking the speakers with reference mixes in any attempt to learn them and compensate. At this moment, i´m finally setting the JBL 708 in bi- amped mode and starting to mix the next song

i do! I used them with the usb to ethernet dsp and microphone and we analyzed the room, and i listened to them with and without the dsp working... i mixed with the dsp room correction. My room ended behaving quite ok, at least in the GLM test and correction...

Here they are... i´m waiting for my sorbotane hemispheres and pads... i need decoupling in all but the Gens that have their special decoupling base that seem to work very well

Can't help but thinking those wood box stands with the small hole in the front are perfect resonant chambers with a bass port!

This is exactly what my impression is when switching from Amphion to Barefoot mm27Gen2 - there is an immediate artificial vibe that then fades away with my attention going to the stunning detail and lightning fast transients of the BFs.

Perhaps we are hearing the extra AD DA stages in both the Barefoot and Genelec speakers? Or maybe the DSP EQ and multi band phase alignment?

The Amphions sound much more relaxed and effortless to the ear in comparison.

This is also my exact finding as well with the Amphion vs BF. All my Amphion mixes sound glorious thru the BFs (massive, wide, deep, tonally beautiful with a natural sense of dynamics), but the BF mixes thru the Amphions always having me immediately itching to tweak stuff, usually in the low mids but often in vocal level and the air of the vocal in relation to the instruments.

In your case with the low end boom and cloudiness, is it any question as to which one is telling you the truth?

Maybe you need more time mixing on them and then confirming mixes outside your studio - it has taken me months to arrive at what I now know.

And I will 'second' mpr3's findings after using the Amphions for over a year now.

It's not something that is an instant "ah ha" moment... It's after you done mix after mix on them and start to realize there's no surprises anywhere, and the mixes just translate.
