Unfortunately, the iOS X Patch remote app isn't working anymore with iOS 10. I hope they update it.

So the best solution is to just run it directly to the wifi router, and control over a browser and that's that? Sounds simple enough.

Anyone know why X-Patch was discontinued? Seemed like such a great idea.

Seemed to work for me. It's not browser controlled though, you have to download, install and run the x-patch application. That's the part that people are concerned with, in terms of future compatibility.

Aahh I see.. And this is Win7 only, or also 8? Might still run in 10 actually, even though its 7. You can even run some XP apps on 10.. I think.. Im on 7 and will stay here for a good while.

I think it would fit perfectly in this time where people strip down their analog gear collections, but stick to a few units for bus processing. It would be so great to have maybe up to 8 analog mono units beeing connect to a device like the X-Patch with really good software for routing presets. Maybe even an integration as an AU/VST plugin to easily integrate your analog gear into your DAW project.

There don't seem to be any of those units with a passive signal path, right?

So just the relay matrix computer controllable. All these active electronics don't quite well fit to my vintage outboard. I want the load of an output transformer to be directly connected to the next unit's input transformer. I lose this interaction with any of the units above.

The Flock is also pretty close to the SSL xpatch.

Yes, since the new OS is 64 the SSL software is not functional. I now use the Liaison and Flock. It’s a shame SSL won’t support it any longer.

Has anyone got one of these working on modern OS, either through kludge, reverse engineering, or OSX/Windows VM?

I'm happy to give my notes as I figure it all out, but it'd be nice to have something to build off

One additional question, from the app in setup i can’t change the device linkage, for 1-8, it’s all grayed out in a manner that it isn’t in the manual.

Any ideas?

I've used the latest version available on SSL's website and have utilized on Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11.

Still haven't figured out why i/o channels 1-8 are editable but grayed-out for the unlinked/device radio buttons. Java should be up to date, I can try running as a legacy app, but I would imagine it'd be all 16 channels if it was a bug in the software.

Next stop would be resetting the patchbay to defaults, I suppose?

Anyone know how to reset the x-patch to factory settings? After years of sitting in storage, I Stilton a tip to open the x-patch control software by clicking on “show package contents” so I could navigate into the resources and manually open the app. I had it working but then got greedy and thought about connecting it to an Ethernet switch so I could get a second unit. I changed the IP Address from the default static settings to DHCP and now the control software can’t find the unit when connected to the switch or directly. I am hoping I can factory reset to at least restore the static IP address.

I’ll check the manual, in the meantime you ought to be able that connect it up to your computer or router (not switch) and set up internet sharing/DHCP.

Edit: Yeah, everything i see suggests you connect it to a DHCP enabled router (not present on switches) or configure a DHCP server on your computer (assuming you have an ethernet port.)

If you need any tips for that, I’m happy to suggest, given whether you’re using on Windows or MacOS.

Sure! If the router you try does not work i have a macbook air and can use similar settings and step through the process.

Yes. I am running it on a Mac Studio m1. You have to install an older version of Java but then it works. You also have to open it by navigating into the package contents to find a launcher as described above. I had 1 x-patch that I had given up on but once I got this work around I ended up buying 5 more and am running them as LR pairs on my console groups and mix bus. It’s actually amazing, and I don’t know why it wasn’t a set up that was ever explored by SSL explicitly as it makes the 16x16 totally reasonable. I I mean think about it, even if you have 16 compressors and another 16 EQs, odds are they are 1. stereo pairs, 2. Mostly used on specific sources be cause the types of EQ/Compression you want on a mix bus is different than vocals or drums. So when you start thinking about an X-patch per group it is really powerful.

It’s such a challenge to reconstruct the past. Had my SSL x-patches, however gave up on the old software on Mac OS. The Flock system is just so much easier and great software. I admire what you’re trying to do. It’s sad SSL just didn’t keep going with their original concept.
