I'm mastering with the One 18.
The more I'm mastering with it, the more I feel comfortable. I'm realizing I had lost a kind of pleasure while mastering, it became rather a technical work.
With the One18, I refund this pleasure and creativity, everything become more obvious, I'm working quickly, with pleasure, inspiration. The masters are georgous, more musical and .... happy customers.
I'm under the spell of these loudspeakers!

but I'm wondering, can you please tell me the difference between PSI and Amphion? I realise you didn't compare them directly, but perhaps you can give us an overview of the difference?

I think priko has A21m's and one18's, he should be able to give you a rundown of perceived differences.

To me mainly I now no longer feel like I am wearing a white coat while hunting frequencies and am instead dealing with music again. And things are easy and fun. For me much easier to connect with emotionally.

I'm can't seem to find any information anywhere online about the Amphion amps. I don't suppose you could point me in the right direction?

Just switched from barefoots mm27 gen 2 to Meyer HD-1 and ......I'm back

I went through a slump with the mm27s where I couldn't get vocal or low end translation proper.

Meyers HD1 sound is very interesting... Clear detailed and just real! 100% translation for me .I heard mp3 and streaming artifacts way easier while the low end reacted so much more accurate in my room .

I have a stereo amp. I did not pay, yet, and, to be honest, I don't know how much are them with the amp.

First tests with the One18! I've been finishing some mixes that I started with my old Mackies. I've been working with Mackie HR824 for more than 10 years pretty well until now.

I have to say that I've started a love-hate relationship with the Amphions: I love everything from them but I hate to realize how much detail I've been losing all these years!
What the One18 does with the midrange is AMAZING. Everything is clear and detailed, but the sound is NICE. Not as hard as Genelec or Adam, not doped like some Dynaudio.

I have been waiting for the new Amphion amps to be ready and include them in the test. Maybe compare them to the Hypex Ncore400 I have learned to love. Everything should be on track now and the shipment are headed my way as we speak…

I will report back with pictures and thoughts as soon as I hook them up.

(I have been trying to reach Spiral Grooves again for comparing the two but haven't heard from Spencer in a while. Probably busy times over there as well.. I´l keep trying ???? )

That said Yagya, I think you have V2108, so it's the same kind of beauty on low end but to me with more accuracy in the high. Amphion one 18 could replace both V2108 and PSI A21!!!

Very musical and inspiring speakers... my masters have changed in a more musical way especially in the low end.

I seriously need to hear those speakers. I love my V2108, so easy to work on them. PSI are also fantastic of course, especially the highs (compared to V2108). there is absolutely nothing wrong with my setup right now. But I feel like I should to move on and try other things. and to have two sets of speakers, that has proven very helpful, so the V2018s are staying.

I think with PSI A21 and V2108 you have all what you need.
Amphion one18 is like a mix of both!!!!

It's is very humorous at this point. I have no desire to check them out anymore. I do have a few other speakers I will want to demo in my new room once it's finished however.

I'd really want to know more about the Monitor 30.1. They're priced a bit less than the V2108, although passive.

Has anyone tried to mix on them? IIRC Karloff, you said that you liked them, right?

I haven't worked on them (only a listening session with reference tunes), but boy did they sound like that would be a joy! Check them out and report back. Very natural and real sound, no gimmicks at all.

I have the Original Monitor 30 - the active version.

They are very nice, neutral and pass the speech test.

The designer (Alan Shaw) is passionate about getting it right and taked great care in the design and manufacture of his loudspeakers - and is also very approachable if you have any questions.

They are on my short list of the gooduns.

But - when I bought my Geithain RL906 (smaller, and a little cheaper), my wife immediately commented on how much better the RL906 was.

Without wanting to offend your wife, John, given the choice I would pick passive 30.1's and a decent amp over the RL906 all day long.

Oh how i'd like to hear them both (but i can't find them nowhere near me) and compare them to the V2018 and the 'One' Amphions... but i know that day will come.

What is the speech test?

Speech sounds natural - no undue emphasis of chest tones in men, etc.
Alan Shaw (Harbeth's designer/owner) uses his daughter's recorded voice, and his own in voicing his speakers, as an important part of the process.

Amphion One18 report of the day:

Today I've downmixing an orchestral and dark electronic score for a ex-Hans Zimmer guy. In one word: AWESOME. Today is the first day that I've been working comfortably with them. They translate great to other speakers (I have 4 different pairs around). I just done some very minor adjustment with my trusty Sony alarm-iPod dock grotbox, but 99,9% was there.

Yes, but only a single one in mono and quite briefly. Very impressive from what I could judge. I have an old pair of mk1 passives (with the Vifa tweeter) and I'm desperate to upgrade to this new ATC driver with active amp packs.

The volume can just go up and up if you're not careful - unbelievably effortless.

the main problem with these i see in a probable lack of the low end and it'd be very strange to pay $5-6k for monitors which almost absolutely need a sub.

how's the low end on yours?
