If so, I'm curious your opinion of the texture of the top end of the Flea 12 compared to the the AKGs.
Yes , I believe Konrad Wolf, and a couple of Siemens engineers did the capsule, sorry I can't recall their names.
Have original 251. We tested original C12's Don't know if they had V2148 out put transformers or the T14. Not sure if they changed capsules or tubes. They had the S12 and N12 power supply though. They were very good and well kept microphones. However they would have been in the $30,000.00 price range to purchase.
Yes liked the top end, was excellent, cymbals, violin with upper register with shrills, staccato. AC gtr. Even without thumb picking, side of pick, tip of pick with an acoustic is always distracting to me, but it even handles that nicely.
I believe it depends on what environment you are using the mic in. If you have a classical violinist with an expensive instrument and their life dedicated to it, the Flea C12 worked for me. However if you you're using a lap top with an inexpensive pre and converter in your bed room it might not be the mic for you. I remember guys using the C12 on bass cabinets decades ago. To me this Flea with the new capsule, tube and transformer is excellent.
I believe all mics should be tested in your own environment. Not listen to samples or through other peoples converters and rooms.
