OK. I'm not going to engage in a hate/love Tom Misner discussion. I've avoided all of them for the last few years. I will say a few things:
1. Tom and Bruce McBean had the balls to take this project on. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I spent 3 days with Bruce here in Austin, and had many conversations with him via phone. He and Tom had many, many people that said this project could not be done. So good on them for doing it. Although, I think doing it from AU was, well...kinda crazy. It created all kinds of logistical problems, as the market there is small, and the rest of the market is a long, long ways away. Just my opinion, never heard that from Bruce or Tom...but whatever. He did it, and that's a pretty cool thing. BTW I've never met or spoken to Tom.
2. It's an amazingly capable and flexible console. The ability to engage transformers throughout is very unique, I think. Bypassing/or engaging transformers in the pre's alone creates 2 very distinct personalities. The 2 mix busses - also unique. CR section, amazing. Lots there for the money (although they are not 'cheap'.
3. I won't argue that the desk sounds 'just like a vintage neve', because I've never owned one. But some of the people that have been using it for sessions here have, or do own vintage Neves. They all have found it amazingly close. EQ's are awesome, 2254 the same.
4. Having a full monitor section is fairly unique in this price range. Enormously useful when tracking, obviously. And it ads inputs at mix time, should you need em. I think my console has 90+ inputs to mix from (32 ch config).
That's it. I'm not paid to sell em, I just use it. I have had several people come to Austin to take a look/listen, though. I'm really happy that the company will be in VERY capable hands so that people will have the opportunity to purchase and use them again.
There are a few examples out there to hear the console - you can check out austinsignal.com - look under the 'sounds' tab. Soundcloud/Spotify, etc...so it is what it is. But you'll hear a significant difference between, say - Ghosts Along the Brazos and Driver Friendly, for example.
Also, this record was recorded at AS, most done to 8 track tape, transferred to 96/24. Very analog-y...I love the band - this is really a plug for them!!!
