The Bus Compressor is based on the mix bus VCA type compressor of a worldwide known and acknowledged British large format mixing console from the 80's. It was used on practically every hit record and major production from the 80's to present days, so much that its sound has almost become a trademark. This compressor was so widely used that it later became a stand-alone rackmount unit, so that it could be used separately from the large format console. This made for even more success; a thing that led to many hardware and software clones trying to emulate it.
...have picked it up as a free additional plug-in during the last group buy, but in general, outside of the IK Bus Comp and Precision Comp, I'm not really into IK's compressors. Their EQs are pretty good though.

I use it after my Abyss plugin as it gives me back the low-end I've taken out with the VCA-type compression. That's normal. VCA compressors tighten...
Curious as to whether your shootouts are done using a single source or a fuller mix? Something that sounds great 'soloed' might not be right for the mix and sound terrible, while something that sounds like shite on a single source might rock the mix.
