Is there any audio online that has a comparison of the Anamod to dry that is less subtle than the one at the start of this thread? Perhaps drums pushed till they start to obviously break up?
I contacted the folks at Anamod and it seems these are going back into production, but will be 4k instead of 3k (before cards, sigh). That's a lot of cash to plunk down. I'm on the waiting list. I'm also away from my studio for a few months, so I'm listening on headphones (Sennheiser 280 Pro) for the time being. I've used quite a few hardware saturator/tape sim devices before though (Zulu, Culture Vulture, Overstayer MAS, Beriech 03 Dual Density, RND 542, HG2), and I used to record on Tascam Portastudios for years, so my ear knows decently well what to listen for.
Problem is, for the demo clips provided, I can't hear a bit of difference! I'm guessing its the fact that I'm not using my monitors, but just headphones. But I find that when I audition gear, I will often push it to the extreme, to get a good sense of what it's doing, and that helps me to hear the more subtle examples of this more clearly, especially when it comes to new gear.
Drums really pushed into analog tape has a pretty recognizable sounds, usually easiest to tell what's going on that way. I'm grateful for all the work that must've gone into the shootout here. But is there an example of the Anamod online that is more pronounced, particularly on drums? That would be super helpful. I don't know when the units are going to roll off the production line, so I may need to make a decision about putting cash on an Anamod before I'm back in my normal listening environment. Anyway, any non-subtle a/b comparisons would be really appreciated.
