democratisation of tools and means of production
The past 3-4 decades we have seen a significant democratisation of tools and means of production,
affordable, if not to say cheap tools ( even free and open source tools) of today are far more capable than exclusive highest end million bucks technology had been a 3, 4 decades ago.
A side effect of this is, while nearly everyone can be a producer if you have the skills and desire, the route to broader success is limited by the mass of attention-competing artists and works.
Music, and image, and now moving image have become worthless economically, and are on the brink of becoming a nusance, envirnmental and cultural pollution.
The greatest artists are invisible and remain unknown in the mass of sub-mediocre works.
So, the question is, is and was this democratisation a good thing, or should the tools have been restricted to a lucky elite of people, meaning also that most of the most gifted would be excluded from this elitist club?
Would you give your equipment away for the chance to discover greater art than whats around in masses we cant even digest?
Or is it all tools and means for everyone, for free?
