'Behind The Passion' - a short film about Hans Thomann & seven decades in Treppendorf

Thomann's inception practically predates rock music itself - founded by travelling brass musician Hans Thomann Sr. in 1954 in Treppendorf, then West Germany on his family farm surrounded by more livestock than people. Eventually, they became a modest town centre shop in the 1980s, and today the "campus" is the size of a small airport today, with a large retail shop and distribution warehouses and offices making up the rest.
In seven decades Thomann has grown to become the world's largest musical instrument and pro audio retailer, supplying customers from just a few miles away in the village to places far and wide around the planet - including North & South America, Australasia, and anywhere that can be shipped to.

This informative short film gives a brief of look into the life and times of Hans Thomann Jr., the son of the founder and current CEO of the Thomann juggernaut. Hans assumed control in 1990, introducing online sales (at first only via email!) in 1996 at a time when few people even knew what the World Wide Web was, starting up a dedicated Pro Audio division in 2001 and eventually growing the behemoth to its current stature owing to both a supreme dedication to the music and the business that he loves and an extreme level of personal sacrifice.

This enlightening and occasionally even moving portrait of Hans Thomann features contributions from family, suppliers and manufacturers, professional musicians, Thomann staff members, other "big business" CEOs and of course a main narrative from an interview with Hans himself. There are dramatic historical reconstructions of Hans and his father in the shop in the 70s and 80s, and a little bit of archival material in the form of an old TV ad makes an appearance as well, from a time when pointy shredder guitars were clearly all the rage.
