same here! i have a bass station vst that i got with my focusrite interface, but i never really got into it. i did like some of the sounds on it though....

if it's priced right i may be interested

I bet that they will price it under 600-700 euros. They are showcasing patch memory in these teaser pics, which might be a not so common feature in that price range, but, I still hope it's not another basic monosynth..I'm getting very bored with all these 2 osc / 1 lfo monosynths nowadays.

It has quite a high case tho and there isn't any side panels like on the minibrute hmm...

Probably a small keyboard instrument like the original Basstation... I don't remember any desktop Novation synth product...except Nova perhaps.

Ah-ha! As it happens, I know a couple of people at Novation and I did suggest to one of them to investigate the possibility of taking the Super Bass Station and making a keyboard version of it. The time is certainly right for Novation to put such a thing out, what with all the new analogs.

I would hope, though, that they aren't recreating the original BS since it was rather weak as analogs go. The SBS added a sub osc, a second LFO and envelope and these made quite a difference!

What about its tone? How was the SBS sounding like?

Not a Roland, Moog, Arp or anything vintage. There are shades of that when the filter is brought in, but it's a clear "modern" analog with a bright, "fizzing" sound. Though certainly not as brash as the Minibrute. Seems underrated, though the interface is fiddly and understandably a turn-off, it's worth learning.

IF this new keyboard is a synth, and IF it is analog, I will be very pleasantly surprised. It has taken Novation far, far too long to return to their "synth roots" and release new ones. If I recall the BS/SBS were designed by Chris Huggett? He of OSCar / EDP Wasp "fame". There's quite some heritage to build on...

Even SBS was still not terribly rich or bassy. People often called these things treble stations or lead stations. I found them to have a kind of thin dry sound. I think it was well suited to goa/psy leads at the time. I like the filter though, as it has its own sound.

The signal path is unipolar supply, AC coupled, which I think may contribute unfavourably. I haven't bothered to investigate it much though.

Unfortunately the processor choking was a real problem. I had trouble tweking a 16th bass line. Really bothered me at the time, as I was writing fast hard trance/techno when it was released, and specifically chose it for its extensive MIDI implementation and knobby panel. Too bad.

I think any modern processor chosen now would run circles around the old model. Shouldn't be an issue. However, I hope they re-think the analogue section.

Astral Projection were using a basstation keyboard for their gigs in 90s...they never had fat basslines though...

I never heard anyone say much good about the old BassStation. Hopefully they have taken the concept and made a much better analogue synth. Like a modern SH101 or something.

Since I got my BassStation Rack working again, I've barely touched it.

The main thing for me is the ADSR controls just don't seem to make sense to me on the filter (the controls change depending on if it's in 12 or 24Db/Oct mode) and it doesn't sound half as big as my Dark Energy, even though it has 2 oscillators over the DE's 1 (though with 2 waves output). (example here- https://soundcloud.com/#atomsun/who-needs-303s the DE is the rounder sound, while the BS is scratchier. The timing is all over the place tho...)

It has got a nice, scratchy, sound to it which could be useful. Maybe I'll have a tweak again.

It would be nice for Novation to make an analogue again, as that was a contributor to their success back in the 90s. But let's see, eh?

Personally, I'd like to see something on the scale of the Supernova again- the Ultranova has reputably a more powerful engine, but not enough knobs...

The first version (keyboard and rack) didn't seem to have the issue with processing capacity (at least not so much). I never owned one, but played a friend's at times. Also, the not so fat sound featured quite a lot in goa/psy. Same for the use of Nord Lead 1, imo. I still choose it for that character when needed.

Some really appreciated it. I think there was disappointment when people hoped it to be fat, warm, lush, wet, or a 303. It probably wasn't helped much by Novation's marketing.

I agree about the SBS going wonky, think they fixed that one till it broke.

Loads of well known acts used BassStations back in the 90s - William Orbit, Oliver Lieb, Massive Attack. They're certainly unique, more of a squawker than living up to any bass expections. The only exception is if you set the res up so high that the heft is coming from the filter rather than the oscillators.

Maybe this new one will be a VA into analogue filter hybrid like the Rocket.

The original BS keyboard has a lovely dirty filter which sounds like some sort of messed up overdrive when you whack the resonance high - a bit like the old Commodore 64 6581 soundchip. Isn;t it the same filter as the old wasp synth or smth? Anyway, I'll never sell my BS KB.

And no - none of the Bass Stations are any good at bass. The envs are too slow for a kick off, but they lack any, uhm, bass really. They sound amazing at leads and fifths though.

I wonder if it is well built. Sliders tend to be noisy and fail on many synths

Call me a weirdo, but I don't see the point of getting an analog monosynth only for leads, fx...it seems to me like wasted money. Interesting lead sounds can be achieved with many synths...even with really cheap synths.

It's pointless to call every new small analog synth "a tb-303" or "an SH-101". These are known model names because they left a special sound signature in the modern music production and they were used with a unique way by artists. Nowadays there are tens of similar synths and digital technology is at its peak, so, we can't expect an "SH-101 revolution" with products which are so common. Sound signature is a very important factor. It's not only about a new analog. It has to sound good to many producers in order to be memorable. Do you believe that Minibrute is such a hit in synth market?


8 of 10 modern synths have a metallic chassis. Where is the insanity factor? We don't even know the price yet...

I can't understand why you are so mad at me? Did I say something bad for you? What do you mean "I'm being a tool"? I just write what I see. Did I write a lie? I'm always precautious when I see a new product. Enthusiasm is rising gradually in me when I find out more about a product.

Am I a tool because I care about the price? It's part of the product and it can definitely change everyone's opinion about the product.
