Cool so see someone who did the CV/Gate mod to the Prodigy recently. I also got an early model and I am thinking about doing this mod.
I considered to get the Kenton kit, but on the other hand there are free instructions to perform the mod like here:
http://machines.hyperreal.org/manufa...igy.cv.mod.txt
Additionally I'd prefer to install standard sized jacks insetad of the mini-jacks delivered in the Kenton kit.
Could you tell if the mod in the above mentioned link is identical to the Kenton mod?
the kenton kit is a little bit different, attached to the wires there's like an inline-circuit so that you can use a regular Gate signal, rather than S-Trig. So it's not exactly the same as the mod in the text file...Also it's note-worthy that 0volts CV is an F on early moogs, rather than a C like on most synths, so you need a CV/Gate controller that supports transposing notes +/- 5 or it will get confusing.
I'm sure you could unsolder the 1/8 jacks and solder on 1/4 jacks, you just need to make sure they're the kind of jacks that are switching (like when you insert a jack, it disconnects the existing CV circuit for example..)
I didn't find it too big of a deal to just use the 1/8" jacks, i have a ton of 1/4 to 1/8 cables laying around though...
the hardest part of the whole mod is that you need to solder to a trace, then cut the trace directly afterwards. This is for the CV signal. The 1/8" jack then becomes a switch, when you have no jack it, it completes the circuit where the trace was cut, when you insert a jack, it bypasses the internal CV signal and uses the input from the jack. Be sure to tin the wire that you're soldering to the trace and just press and hold it for a few seconds with the soldering iron, that's all i had to do and it eventually held.
