yep, it's here. I keep on making various fixes to it. So far I replaced a few keys, the backlight, fixed the MIDI In. The Sample In doesn't work yet (no signal is shown in meter) and I'm about to replace one floppy disk with the HxC SD card reader/writer

Here in Brazil I´m thinking about grab one. It´s all ok and checked. It´s around 1,400 USD with a vast sample library.

I paid about 900 u.s for mine 2 years ago—not sure how the demand has changed since.
It's a great machine but I don't think there's as large a following for vintage samplers as there is for vintage synths.
I doubt the guy has 10 buyers lined up for the purchase so you could try talking him down some.

I would buy a second one for that. There's not that many around in good shape and the ones that are have a steep asking price.

It's interesting because I've been following the gearslutz perceived value of this machine for many years and it's just not very realistic unless one happens to fall in your lap.

I think as the supply becomes lower, the demand will go beyond 1000 as the filters, arp & poly sound alone are worth the price of admission.

Im very confused, really... The one i'm talking about it's a II + model.
Dunno what to do, is it really worth it? I know all the analog chips and so. Thats why I'm right between this Emulator II +, or a mint Juno 106 for the same price. I think for a good comparison we got the same price area that UK use to have on instruments...

"Asking" price and "getting" price are two very different things... I see many MANY synths that get re-listed over and over.

Maybe it's worth it these days, maybe not.

But, I can tell you one thing with 100% certainty, we'll know for sure when someone pays that (or not).

This item is visible since months, even I think the emu e2 worth more than this (really amazing sound, better to my ears than some vintage analogue poly even not comparable of course).

I bought a very clean unit 2 months ago (new screen, cleaned, new power supply...) for 1499 $ (1 Mb version), user was using it which means it did not stay in a wet garage without use during the last 15 years(if it was the case there are big chances you will need more than 1 k for repair...)
Btw these sellers have mixed opinion from knowledgeable people I know (to stay polite)
Check on emu eiii forum maybe you will find useful tips (versions, risks, emuser ...)

A friend is discouraging me all the time, he says ir didn't worth the money, people are getting nutz, Emulators are jurassic monsters and they keep on breaking all the time.

The achilles heel is the 5-1/4 floppy drive. You can't buy those blank floppies or drives anymore and those drives will die. Even if a seller claims he has a vast library of disks, it's a safe bet that half the floppies no longer work or have developed bad sectors and can no longer be recovered. 5-1/4 floppies were the worst removable media ever invented. Terrible.

A EII won't run until you load the OS from floppy. If the drive is dead, so is the EII.

I have about 2000 sound disks equivalent on 1 sd card (with OS) and can use emuser and its soft to transfer sounds from my computer (emu format or convert wave,sound fonts , ...,)

I mean, it reads the OS and then you can read the samples from the same SD? How did you conect it?

I've owned a lot of Emu stuff, Owned an EII, made a ton of money with it on the road but you couldn't pay me enough to buy one of those crappers. They were sloppy and grit. Analog rocks compared, or new stuff like the Kronos etc. They were cool for the day but they serious lacked in tone. The eproms ( forget that actual part to what give power to the voices) were inconsistent as well, meaning, not each of the 8 voice's were accurate. As you played one note after the other, they were never the same. You have to match them and in todays world, that ain't possible. The sequencer was really sloppy as well. It was a nice effort but what started the end of emu.

Don't waste your money unless of course, you love having vintage stuff.

You are completely missing the point of why people LOVE the Emulator II... It's all about that sound!

Analog filters and a bit rate that defies vibe!!!

Yep the SD FD emulator drive replaces the fd bay and needs to be installed (i haven't done it by myself but it seems to be a medium complexity job)

Classic sound that fits very well in a mix (probably because of the bandwidth limitations). My EII+ is one of those pieces that I'd never sell.

Pre-dating HxC, we modded it some years ago by fitting an Apple Mac LC with SCSI bridge and inside (running Sound Designer with all the disks on one CF card). The RS422 now connects VGA to my studio displays.
