The G1 is way cool for certain drum stuff. I was almost putting it in my list as well because we get some insane booming synthesized kicks out of it here. My fav is a 3 Osc, 4 Filter, 4 Env patch with overdrive. heh

You can't not love it. They sound amazing when you fire a few of the sounds individually through some distortion & overdrive pedals. heh

The 808 is beat, it needs a rebuild, maybe even a new housing, I'd like to buy a second unit, but prices are a bit mad.

How do you find the stretch compared to the linndrum?

Similar in terms of options with the stretch. The general character of each is quite different, both superb so it's worth having both. I have some obligatory Roland sounds for each in order to satify what' in vogue.

The Rolands have been in vogue from the mid-80s until today weren't that popular back in the day, because the sounds weren't very convincing. Most of the sales were because they were cheaper and because they had had more extensive percussion as part of the stock kit. Also, unintentionally in trying to render accurate drum sounds alot of the sounds were more electronic in nature, appealed to certain genres like hip-hop aka now called electro.

I have a the stretch and a broken Linndrum. I ask because i wondered if it's worth fixing..I've never tried it.

Also you may be able to help with my Stretch, I can never get the far right sound in the Stretch add-on box to work. It seems it has a double rom slot only on that sound, do you know what rom size and format should go in that slot?

Very very cool drum machine! I had one many years ago & I know for sure I'd use it if I had one now. thumbsup

Why is it so cool? Serious question, in case I ever stumble across one.

It's just a great liitle box for programming beats, seriously. Really intuitive interface & programming, touch sensitive drum/trigger pads, mod wheel that can be assigned to various parameters like pitch, pan, filter etc. When you're programming it you can punch in a beat & either record the live modulations at the same time or let it roll & record your modulations later. Great little machine for putting down ideas & making quick beats, but also seriously useable in producing tracks when you nail it & start getting the best out of it. I'd buy one in a flash if the price was right, but it might not be everyones cup of tea.

You should fix it if it's not hugely expensively, those sounds were the best on the market and still are the best stock sounds i've heard to date, and the feel similary has never been equalled. The MPCs are the closest but not the same.

On the slots i would've remembered years ago, ya they're different sizes you'd have to find a tech who knows.

the RS shuts the rest (except the ER1) down really... but i must agree, i bought the RY30 used bcuz my friend had one years b4... definately a really good drum machine... still has that warm sound from the late 80s, early 90s and i love the fact that it has a bender wheel... even though its in the closet, i wont sell it.

I'd say you're closer to an MPC650. There's a lot you're still missing out on with an MPC1000 w/JJOS.
