It's definitely a money grab but hey, if you're a diehard Rush fan, why not?
It's not much more expensive than the regular model, and in the end, guitar brands have been doing "signature" editions for decades, so I don't see anything wrong with that.

Ok, another “special edition”. I don’t even dare look at the price tag.

Much like the Prophet 10 special edition, nothing to make me want it over the regular one.

$5499 on Reverb. So, $500 more than the regular one. Not as crazy as the P10SE compared to the regular.

Still, I’d just get the regular one. Though, I wonder what the “hot rodded VCA circuit” is all about. And they mention “dedicated LFO controls” but they don’t look any different than the standard reissue. And aren’t top panel CV jacks standard?

I’m somewhat tempted by this, because I don’t have a Model D, and this one is a bit more unique than the ones everyone else has.

I just don’t know if I can justify spending $5.5K on a monosynth I really don’t need. Even if it’s THE monosynth. And a Prophet 10 is quite a bit cheaper.

I mean, I have a Matriarch already. But nothing sounds like a Model D.

That actually makes sense, because I saw Rush live a couple times a decade ago and he used a Little Phatty for those lead sounds from Tom Sawyer and Subdivisions.

I wonder if he still would have used a Model D if they had the reissues out back then.

It's well worth it if you don't have one. Very pricey though even for the previous re-issues.

These will sell fast as there will be folks looking to make a buck to sell higher in the secondary synth market. Some may even buy two and then sell one of them at a higher cost.

I kinda like the way it looks. The Geddy Lee affiliation and emblem make it far less desirable to me though.

There will be rush fans. Non musicians who will buy this.
I may have to buy one, just to let it sit mint in box. Then sell it for 20k in a few years. I wonder how many they are making?

I can't believe they still haven't released simply a polyphonic minimoog with presets and MIDI.

Muse isn't bad, but seems to sound different without the immortal thick and buzzy scream of the mini.

I love Rush and I would love to get a Model D, but I don't see the appeal of a signature edition like this at all. If I'm going to pay big bucks for a re-issue by Moog I sure as hell would want it to look like the original, not like a custom modded version, not even Geddy Lee's.

I hope not, at least not in terms of technical playing skills. He's not a virtuoso player on keys, or at least I've never seen him do anything that hints at that.

But what he plays is very, very tasteful and beautiful so if that is what you mean I'm with you, but that is more about composing than playing skills. I will take beautiful, slower melodies over keyboard shredding every day of the week.

Red paint and stickers won't really help with that, but a beautiful sound just might.
